Well, in a perfect world I suppose, but you face the same choice as regards taxation. One can join another branch of the service if they don't like the Army. Every major war we have fought and won against large effective competent militaries we have done with an army that was partially conscripted. They were good soldiers. If we ever fight an enemy like that again, conscription will happen or we will be defeated.

Yeh, sure. Reagan proved those ideas wrong every way they possibly could be proven wrong. An all-volunteer military should always be our policy. You can’t compromise on these things and call yourself a conservative.

I dont think a draft is a good idea.
However, being the father of two girls—and no boys, I think the girls should be in line and serve. I have always felt that there should be NO exemptions—except if you were in ROTC or couldn’t serve (mental and medical conditions.) There is no reason if you are going to draft Johnny, you can draft Janey and put her in the stateside jobs that allow you to ship Johnny overseas.
The problem is that when it comes to this stuff, people are not using their imagination, nor are they being creative.

If we ever fight an enemy like that again, conscription will happen or we will be defeated. We will never fight an enemy like that again, just as we will never again fight an army of redcoats marching in formation. Today's military is a military of highly trained professionals working with high technology and not cannon fodder you can just hand a gun to and expect to be effective soldiers.
