The reality here and now is that we are fighting against a collection of undisciplined, poorly trained, lazy people. If we are going to fight a competent, sizeable Army again, we the Army will need to have draftees. There are many free (Israel, South Korea, Taiwan, Switzerland) countries that draft their soldiers.
Generally I'd agree with your statement. All but the part about them being lazy. I was in Israel about 12 years ago and it was an eye-opening experience, even back then. On an R&R day my squadron had a Sunday trip to the Dead Sea. I was surprised to see families picnicking while all of the men were strapped with AKs on their backs. Later in the week we went to the mall and every entrance was guarded by a soldier in uniform, cocked and loaded. Mind you this was before 911. My fear is that until we as a country take this WOT seriously, with even the elites serving, we are destined for the same.
