"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
“... until 1867, there was Canada West and Canada East.”
Quite correct — and even before then they were called Upper Canada and Lower Canada (the waters in Upper Canada flowed down to and through Lower Canada — important stuff to know when you depended on a canoe to get around).
But that parliament was not the direct predecessor of the parliament of the Dominion of Canada, which was the confederation of three colonies: the Provinces of Canada(which was divided into Canada East and Canada West), Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Sorry this is just a pet peeve of mine. What we call Canada today was not simply the pre-Confederation Province of Canada, but rather all the colonies of British North America(Canada, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI, British Columbia, Manitoba and Newfoundland).
