IDF Will Invade Syria if Missiles Fly
israelnational news ^ | 8/12/07 | IsraelNN.com

(IsraelNN.com) The IDF under Defense Minister Ehud Barak is planning a ground assault deep into Syrian territory if Syria attacks Israel with missiles, according to a report by Channel 10's military affairs correspondent.

The reporter said Syria possesses thousands of missiles capable of hitting virtually any point within Israel. The only way to counter this threat, he said, would be to launch a swift strategic ground assault into Syria until the missile attack ceases

I sure hope that’s not an empty threat.

To expect this Israeli government to win a war against Syria is like expecting a different result this time. They couldn't even defeat Hezbollah. I have no confidence in Olmert and his crew and so do most Israelis. There isn't any one in Israel willing to risk their lives for the spineless politicians who run Israel's current government.

Now this is what I call, “Land for peace”.
We take your land till you stop attacking us.
Simple really.

We will see.

I would hope that Isreal would take a hard stand against this kind of threatening move, but I’m not so sure they will.

The loss by Isreal to the Hezbollah in last year’s little war really makes me sceptical of this.

Israel never does enough to scare the Syrians. They don’t kill enough.

Israel, like the U.S., conducts war against terrorist organizations (like Hezbollah) far differently than she fights nations with traditional militaries. First world nations with first class militaries find it far easier to take on the latter. Hezbollah fights in the shadows and hides behind women and children. It's very difficult to look good against that type of enemy (as we Americans have learned all too well these past few years). Taking on Syria or any nation with a traditional military would be child's play by comparison. Israel would bring them to their knees in short order.

Dealing with Syria ping.

The problems in the Middle East are interrelated, and Syria is one of the key links between the state-sponsoring links of terror.

they probably meant to say.. ground penetration not ground invasion ie. huge craters deep into syria in very strategic locations

An attack by Syria on Israel should be met by a massive bombardment by the IDF and US Forces. It should lead to a total collapse of Assad and his dictatorship as quickly as possible putting our strategic position as the first priority. The destruction of Syria as a dictatorship will benefit all civilized people.

You know, I've often wondered: why do people insist on misspelling the name of the nation of Israel?

Especially when it's in the article in front of them in several places.

Is it a joke? Some sort of pun?

I don't get it.

Missile launchers are easily hidden and dispersed. Boy Assad remembers what happened to Saddam when there were boots on the ground in Iraq. Israeli boots on the ground in Syria will mean he has to spend the rest of his life as a guest in Iran or die ignominously.

Yes, I agree!

By the way, if a nation is attacked, and the attacked occupies the invader, it does get to keep the land, right? I mean, Syria attacks Israel with missiles — Israel goes after Syria on the ground — they mark new borders — half of Syria then belongs to Israel. That’s correct in my thinking. That’s what prevents nations from risking invading their neighbors without legitimate cause.

I know, I know, this should be the rule in the Golan, too. Previously, Israel was attacked by Syria, and so Israel took the Golan Heights. I see absolutely no justification for asking Israel to ever return the Golan Heights. Syria lost that fair and square by attacking Israel.

Assad continues to walk outward on the already thin ice. Doesn't the idiot realize the world will not react the same way as it would regarding ME countries boardering the Persian Gulf and Red sea where all the oil/gas is shipped out of.
Syria offers nothing to the world. Syria may get little support or symphathy from anyone other then Iran.
Besides as we well know, if Israel is pushed to the point of taking out Syria, then no one is going to make them stop. It will once again be a done deal. Assad this time will loose royally.
With that being said. Do have a great upcoming day. I have to hit the rack.
