A well-built man was forced to take a drugs test in Stockholm recently after a police officer assumed that muscles like his could only have been developed with the help of illegal substances.
The female assistant police officer got into a conversation with Tomislav Boduljak and his friend late at night in central Stockholm.
According to Boduljak, 27, the police officer was pleasant at first, but changed her attitude when he said he worked out. Saying his muscles were 'abnormal', she said he must have used drugs.
"I asked if she didn't think it possible that I work out a lot and eat well. She said that if someone looks like me, she assumes they have taken drugs," he told Metro.
Despite Boduljak's assurances that he didn't use steroids, she forced him to go to the police station and give a urine test. In her report, the officer said he had "unusually large muscles, particularly large arm muscles, which are a sign of steroid use."
The test was negative, and Boduljak made an official complaint against the police officer. Prosecutors looked into the case, but decided not to pursue it.
Janne Magnusson, an officer at Stockholm Police's drugs unit, told Metro that he thought that the officer had been "a bit too ambitious".

Swedish?
Oh good lord. See how far Socialism can take you, Sweden? What’s next?
“Tomislav Boduljak
Swedish?”
- He or at least one of his parents probably comes/come from former Jugoslavia originally.
[sarc]That’s right, arrest everyone who looks suspicious! And get all those flag-burners, bird-feeders, free speech advocates, and anyone who smells bad! YEH!!!![/sarc]
Unfortunately some of the drug warriors on FR think mandatory drug tests should be much more common in the U.S.
“Oh good lord. See how far Socialism can take you, Sweden? Whats next?”
- If this is an example of Socialist law enforcement, what would, for instance, a liberal approach to steroids look like? Or, a Conservative one?
Next is to closely check the Swedish Bikini Team for bulges.
I'll volunteer for the assignment. (Someone has to do it.)
You’ve got a lot of money, huh? Well, you must have held up an armored truck. You’re under arrest.
Good point. This goes above and beyond liberal/conservative lines. It’s safely in the neutral stupidity region.
You've probably heard of the cases in which persons carrying large sums of money are assumed to have been involved in the drug trade and have their money confiscated by the police, in a legally sanctioned procedure, without ever being charged with a crime.
Ironic that the officer at the center of all this, Janne Magnusson, has the same last name as the man who won “The Worlds Most Strongest Man” competition more times then anyone else.
Janne is a perfect example of a person who should NEVER be given a badge.
This is my favorite part of the story.
The Fox standing guard in front of the Henhouse assures us that everything is fine... nothing to see here... move along...
In New York City, many ethnic Chinese are involved in cooperative financial arrangements, where people will pool money to buy each member of the group a house or an apartment in turn. Typically, the buyer shows up at the closing with an ordinary shopping bag, containing a shoebox full of cash.
It is all completely above-board, laudable even, but it gives law enforcement types fits.
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
I love the concept of CCW licensing. That’s a great way to have better safety against the most violent criminals, as well as the occasional rogue officer. ;-)
Hmm, perhaps they should bring in women that have breasts too large and firm to be real. Silicone check.
“And that looks kind of big, too. Probably Cialis abuse. I’ll have to run more tests.”
Indians (from India) do the same thing with automobiles.
Musta been the shortarm inspection where she went too far......
From gun control
to ‘arms’ control.
Drink Beer To Increase Muscle Tone?
http://beerinfood.wordpress.com/2007/08/04/drink-beer-to-increase-muscle-tone/
I didn't know that, or about the Chinese doing the same as well. But one (sincere) question: Does the group purchased house (or car) then become person's private property, as if he had bought and paid for it himself? Or an unspoken, understood assumption that the house (or car) is sort of "community property" with this fellow a kind of care-taker? (Obviously not to the point of it becoming a taxi service, or gasthaus)
That's a trick question. Liberals and conservatives can both be statists. What this story describes is a statist approach to law enforcement, not necessarily a socialist one, though statism and socialism go hand-in-hand.
Hey, they have Bonds Derangement Syndrome in Sweden, too! ;)
new meaning to “don’t hate me because I am beautiful”
If the NAGs get a hold of this they will arrest women for gross public beauty.
Are you volunteering to be a breast-checking?
It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it. I can “handle” it with sensitivity.
Being on the receiving end of the asset forfeiture laws is very good business if you can get into it. Unfortunately, right now, government seems to have a monopoly in that area.
I’ll bet you can, Tiger! I admire you self-sacrifice.
Another official who thinks she is a “brilliant EXPERT” of personal health and fitness... Prejudiced at it’s finest.
The officer should be reprimanded and forced to give a public apology.
Ok, where is the picture. We ladies need pictures too! ;-)
We are already at: "You've got a lot of money, huh? Well, you must not be playing fair, prepare to be taxed all to heck."
