ENVIRONMENT VS. WILDLIFE
Nealz Nuze/WSB Radio/The Washington Post ^ | August 15, 2007 | Neal Boortz

Looks like liberals can't decide which is more important ... saving wild animals or the environment.

The White House proposed a federal rule requiring ships to reduce speed when coming into U.S. ports. This is supposed to help the ships avoid collisions with endangered whales. Here's the dilemma.

Now we know why they're endangered. They can't even get out of the way of a ship!

International shipping companies say this is ridiculous and will cost them a lot of money – $100 million to $150 million a year in lost time and increased fuel consumption.

That's right ... more fuel consumption, which means that the policy is contributing to polluting the our air with more CO2 emissions.

What to do? Save the whales and dirty up the air, or clean up the air and bump a few whales around.

It's tough being a liberal these days. neal Boortz

It’s important to not let your million ton shipping freighter exceed 25 knots, or to use it as a water skiier.

Hitting the boats I doubt is the problem, hitting the propellers sounds more likely. And if it’s going 5 knots or 80 knots, the propeller is just as deadly.

Actually, hitting the boats (or, more accurately, the boats hitting the whales) is a problem. (The whale is stuck on the bulb at the bow of the ship.)

Whether or not this justifies the policy is another question.
