Gun ID bill takes a shot at illegal weapons market
Los Angeles Times ^ | 8/15/07 | Tiffany Hsu

A proposed state bill requiring all new handguns to be stamped with microscopic identification tags could significantly decrease violence and shut down the illegal gun market if passed, proponents said in a news conference Tuesday.

The Crime Gun Identification Act, AB 1471, would require that lasers be used to create a "microstamp" of each gun's make, model and serial number that would become imprinted onto shell casings when a bullet is fired. The technology was demonstrated Tuesday by its co-inventor, Todd Lizotte, at the Los Angeles Police Academy.

The microstamp is designed to help law enforcement officials trace shell casings back to a gun's registered owner, said Assemblyman Mike Feuer (D-Los Angeles), who wrote the bill.

You just have to ask yourself, if making guns illegal in DC on penalty of prison, did stop them be used in murders in DC, what will a gun identity tag provide? Guns already have serial numbers.

To bastardize an old saying, every time a gun is grabbed, another citizen looses their freedom.

All you inner city ladies with frail front doors you can’t afford to replace, be sure and thank the folks that want you exposed to violent crime. And after you are raped, kids killed and your credit cards stolen, be sure to send thanks to your local city council. And be nice, they didn’t mean to kill you or a family member.

And after, isn’t that what counts?

“A proposed state bill requiring (insert flavor of the day here) could significantly decrease violence and shut down the illegal gun market if passed, proponents said in a news conference Tuesday.”

Yeah right. How many times have we heard that before. note that after all the legislation the problems get worse. Some people never get a clue... even when it guarantees lost elections.

The microstamp will be filed off or filled with liquid metal about 2 hours after the gun is purchased or stolen.

Some must READ the article. This proposed FOOLISH INSANITY writes data ONTO THE CARTRIDGE CASING. The data is not part of the firearm itself....which makes it even more lame, stupid and downright typical of the mindless LIBERAL SOCIALIST LEFT and their absolutely ASSCLOWN ideas...which are really ONLY TO FINALLY DISARM THE LAW-ABIDING PUBLIC anyway. CRIMINAL DO NOT OBEY LAWS.

This stupid idea can be defeated so easily, it is beyond ridiculous, serves only to raise the cost of firearms to law-abiding citizens. It does NOTHING to stop crime and criminals, again typical of the lame, mindless left.

These assclowns must be defeated on this STUPID idea.

I’ve got a better idea...
how about every human coming across our borders be stamped with microscopic identification tags which could significantly decrease violence and shut down the illegal immigrant traffic.

Gee, and revolvers that don't leave brass casing behind? Or an auto with a brass catcher? Or how about just disabling the device?

Assclowns indeed.

A proposed state bill requiring all new handguns to be stamped with microscopic identification tags could hopefully raise he price of these scary things so I can think that people can't afford them.

There, I fixed it for the sissy who wrote this crap.

Free men can acquire any weapon they want. Slaves do what master allows.

This law will only apply to responsible gun owners.

The bill is completely stupid, but consider another possible consequence: you can't sell a gun that doesn't perform what the bill demands. If the gun makers can't satisfy the requirements of the bill, that eliminates the sale of any firearms requiring the technology. The bastards in Sacramento have been trying to invent a law that couldn't be satisfied by the gun makers for years. That stupid "drop test" and other destructive tests was intended to be impossible to satisfy.

These Californians might as well require magic pixie dust be sprinkled on each bullet as it exits the gun.

The object is to defacto ban by oppressive regulation.

The power to regulate is the power to prohibit.

Now THERE is an idea with sanity and good written all over it. But, needless to say, ILLEGALS have carte blanche with the socialist overlords....because they can vote!!!

I reload so I wonder how many stamps will be readable? Wouldn’t it be easier to enforce the laws on the books now and when an illegal gun commits a crime, throw the book at it and through it into a furnace and not catch and release.

Exactly. Just as the ATF won't sell you a $200 tax stamp for a full auto firearm manufactured after 1986. A simple policy change can dry up supplies and drive prices through the roof.

The pathetic part of this is that the California DOJ Bureau of Forensic Services did a report a few years ago saying this was ineffective and impractical. Lockyer didnt like it, but didnt have the science to dispute it. Guess now they’re just going to ignore their own report.

They don’t care if it’s workable or not. The less workable, the better. The goal is to make it dangerous to own legal firearms, for fear of accidentally going out of compliance. Folks will give up firearms ownership, rather than risk prison on some bizarre technical grounds. And don’t forget the sheer hassle factor, wherein guns will have to be periodically retested and reinspected etc. This cost (and time) will be laid upon the weary gun owner. Eventually, millions will just decide it ain’t worth the candle. That is the goal, not safety or catching real criminals.
