Imports of popular Chinese fruit, vegetables and food products were blacklisted yesterday after tests found high levels of toxic contamination and cancer-causing chemical residues. The tests were conducted by the Department of Medical Science and the Food and Drug Administration on about 11,500 food items.
They revealed dangerously high pesticide residues in Chinese spinach, white greens, carrots, celery, pears and collard greens, department chief Paichit Warachit said.
Sulphur dioxide residues were also found in dried herbs such as Chinese pyrethrum and white mushroom, excessive amounts of lead in dried shark fin and seasoned seaweed, the carcinogenic drug chloramphenicol in goat milk powder, and the artificial sweetener saccharine in dried fruit snacks such as dried plums.
Jelly, candy and gum imported from China were also found to contain banned artificial colourings, and fungi were detected in soft drinks and preserved fruits.
''China's food production process is of poor quality because they focus on mass production rather than quality control,'' said Dr Paichit.
''We will try our best to inspect all Chinese products before allowing them to enter Thailand.''
Dr Paichit said food products from China would be closely examined at major entry points, including Chiang Saen port, Chiang Khong and Mae Sai check points in Chiang Rai to safeguard Thai consumers. Shipments would be destroyed or returned to China if they were found to be unsafe.
Chiang Saen on the Mekong river, is the main trading post between Thailand and southern provinces of China. Most products from China are shipped along the river to the district.
Chinese vegetables, fruit and food products have flooded into Thailand since the Thai-Chinese free trade agreement took effect in October 2003.
The agreement reduced tariffs from 30% to zero for about 200 fruits and vegetables.
I do NOT like excessive lead in my dried shark fin. I will not stand for it.

That is the least of their criminal activities.
even Thailand is disgusted with Chinese products.........and so it continues
I buy all my farm produce locally, directly from the farms. Its the only way I can be sure that nothing from China makes it into my kitchen.
Everything else, I check labels. When in doubt, do without.
I am disgusted and sickened that previous purchases of mine might have put money into the pockets of slave masters and criminally negligent factory owners.
Boycott China? It’s the only intelligent choice!
Not criminal arrogance...just the simple fact that China is the absolute bottom of the barrel scum pit on the planet as far as manufacturing and agriculture production is concerned.
But hey.... the douche bag “free traders” and globalist a-holes are fine with it....as long as the consumers at Wal-mart get the “best prices”....and ummmmm “choices”...then nothing else really matters.
Purchase products that are 100% MADE IN THE USA!
Continue to take a stand and be a voice for our pets and our loved ones! Do everything you can to boycott goods made by China and this includes ingredients made in China, Chinese plant processing and Chinese exporting!

I do not buy anything from Small-Mart.
I do not buy any food, clothing, certainly toothpaste, toys or @hit paper labeled “Made in China.”
And, I buy no meat product retailed at Small-Mart.
That references my consumer choice.
I refuse to pay extra for X percentate of “solution” and I damn sure won’t pay to prop up the Communist elitist oligarchy in China.
I like a good dose of lead in my soup, but I do not like any WHITE on my greens.
I was just getting ready to post this......thanks for the ping.

Imagine that.
Yeah, makes it a little too chewy for my taste.
I read an article the other day—probably on FR—that much of the garlic we use comes from China. Also, I stopped buying Dole Mandarin oranges because they come from China—at least the large cans say China. The small cans say they come from Spain.
Thailand?
I can’t believe I was first.
Colgate tooth paste from Mexico as well as Mars and Nestly Candy are made manufactor in Mexico and their Frutoes is not like ours.

America had the Golden Egg and drove it away due to corrupt Unions in the states and slave labor in these Godless nations.
