Thank you, blam.

Very interesting story.

Yes, most pirates are in the east. They have cosy deals with the government of Singapore which allows them to unload cargos (which are hard to track) and then release the ships (which are easy to track) in return for money.

It should be noted that merchant ships are required to have the crew’s payment onboard, in cash! That was a “reform” to the prior practice which had a lot of able seamen stiffed at their destination.

Yup. And, by congressional order, all wages paid must be in US dollars, greenbacks only. That was useful during the Vietnam war when the black market exchange rate for currency was often twice the official rate.

That’s a good one. I’m:

Dread Pirate Bonney

Like the famous Dread Pirate Roberts, you have a keen head for how to make a profit. You can be a little bit unpredictable, but a pirate’s life is far from full of certainties, so that fits in pretty well. Arr!

My Dad always claimed that one of our Welsh ancestors was hanged as a pirate. I always considered it as a bedtime story. But then the other side of my family claimed an ancestor who drowned in a beer vat so guess anything is possible. A lot of Welsh lads went to sea.

I’ve never known anyone with that name, though.

I can’t say that I have found Pirates in our family background. Anarchist yes but no pirates.

Avast, everything is as Norman Rockwell said it was, starting with pirates (and royalty) in American "Family Tree".

There is nothing remotely attractive or appealing about piracy.
