I wonder if people remember back to 2003 when the the Fresno Human Relations Commission called Free Republic a hate site: FR Search on Fresno and Hate.

The city of Fresno settled with Free Republic over this issue. It strikes me that one could use the City of Fresno as a character witness for Free Republic based on the results of this lawsuit.

If the City of Fresno says that Free Republic is NOT a hate site, and the courts back up Free Republic, then that should be good enough for everyone else.

It's possible with this precedent that there may well be a good foundation for a lawsuit. As I said, though, I'm not an attorney.

However, with this and the rumblings about reinstating the Fairness Doctrine, can it be more clear that the coming election is crucial to our freedoms, particularly to our freedom of speech?

It should make us all even more aware of the importance of a site such as Free Republic.
