F.R. defamed as "Hate Site" by Fox 5 News! [FOX News' Bill O'Reilly started this B/S]
Fox 5 News ^ | 8/16/07 | crusher

I was listening to the news out of the corner of my ear when I heard FreeRepublic specifically mentioned as a "hate site" about fifteen minutes ago.

Ostensibly the long report was about the Klan using the web to recruit new wackos. Then the focus turned to Casa Maryland, and their director who claimed that calls for his murder had circulated on the internet by anti-immigrant bigots. It was then that the anchor identified FR by name as a hate site.

I am not a lawyer. If I was Mr. Robinson I would have been on the phone to the lawyers asap.

**************

I agree. I would have done the same, and for all we know, he did.

******************

I know the legal system is ugly and expensive, however it is necessary in this case of unjustified and repeated media attacks

******************

I'm not sure if it would make sense from a financial perspective, but his attorney can advise him of that.

I believe they are out to complete destroy FR. It will ultimately have nothing to do about the financial outcome if they succeed.

If this site didn’t have an impact on the last two POTUS elections, this thread wouldn’t be happening.

This is an orchestrated effort to marginalize FR before November, ‘08. It’s painfully obvious.

I wonder if people remember back to 2003 when the the Fresno Human Relations Commission called Free Republic a hate site: FR Search on Fresno and Hate.

The city of Fresno settled with Free Republic over this issue. It strikes me that one could use the City of Fresno as a character witness for Free Republic based on the results of this lawsuit.

If the City of Fresno says that Free Republic is NOT a hate site, and the courts back up Free Republic, then that should be good enough for everyone else.

"Free speech for conservatives are under attack."

Damn right it is. The libs and RINOs want sites like Free Republic shutdown. We're much to dangerous to their socialist agenda.

Free speech is our most potent, yet susceptible weapon. Use it, or lose it!

You may well be right. I know BOR has no love for the internet, so a site such as this may be particularly galling to him, especially since many of us are not fans of his. He's gotten a lot of free publicity from this, and yet not much criticism that I have seen. For him so far it's a win/win proposition, so there's no disincentive to continue the attack at this point.

He's despicable.

(sarcasm on)
Perhaps we need a sensitivilty training thread. Someting where we can be trained to be sensitive to the feeeelings of Democrats and liberals as we expose them to the glaring light of truth. The truth hurts, so we should administer it with sensitivity.
(sarcasm off)

This is just more of the “fairness doctrine” attack that is going on to silence conservative communication channels. The goal is to try and pigeon hole FR so as to prevent people from mentioning it to others or to simply be afraid to talk about it.

I believe WhistlingPastTheGraveyard to be correct. This cannot be anything else. I sense fear coming out of the Democrat camp, and some RINOs are fearful as well. This has to be what is taking place. Powerful people sometimes will make ‘power plays’. I believe Free Republic is seeing a ‘Power Play’. There can be no other explanation, in my humble opinion, but to agree with WhistlingPastTheGraveyard. Those making this ‘power play’ desire is to either shut down Free Republic, or make it completely PC and leave the people who come here with no voice. I will not go PC, never been there, and I am too old to go PC now. Gentlemen, if PC is the coming trend, I am doomed, as is Rush, as is every Conservative.

BOR’s radio show never did take off or did it?

He does still push his paid subscription website every night. Does he seriously believe we are traffic competition for him?

I know BOR has no love for the internet

Despite the fact that he pushes his website polls each night, touts his paid subscribers' views on the most popular segments of his shows, and hawks his souvenirs from his webstore?

It's possible with this precedent that there may well be a good foundation for a lawsuit. As I said, though, I'm not an attorney.

However, with this and the rumblings about reinstating the Fairness Doctrine, can it be more clear that the coming election is crucial to our freedoms, particularly to our freedom of speech?

It should make us all even more aware of the importance of a site such as Free Republic.

It’s the standard liberal canard - begin with a mention of the KKK or Nazis, and then weave in a reference to a) conservatives, b) christians, c) Free Republic, or d) Republicans.

Ding, ding, ding - we have a winnah!

Sir, I meant to address my post 711 to you as well.....
My error......

At least we can identify the enemies of Free Republic and Free Republic knows their voices will continue to attempt the demise of this Site (Free Republic) and Free Speech. I want to go full speed ahead, but the body will not stand for such. Anyone popped the popcorn yet.....Let's make this fun....okay (smile)

"The goal is to try and pigeon hole FR so as to prevent people from mentioning it to others or to simply be afraid to talk about it."

Marginalize it, pidgeon hole it, discredit it, and deconstruct it. All leftist tactics used to eliminate, silence and/or destroy their opposition. If you really want to talke about hate...let's talk about all the sheer, unadulterated hatred the lefties have displayed and exhibited for non-lefties on every forum I've posted on, and especially for FR and Freepers... after the outting of Dan Rather and his phony NG memos.

Now THAT is hate!
