Comey was never granted the authority to decide Ashcroft’s mental state.
Serious question: Was there a procedure in place for temporary transfer of authority to someone in Comey’s position, and was it followed? Or is the whole notion of such a transfer utter hogwash? I am not defending Comey here; I just don’t know how these things work.
