French Press Agency: Fred Thompson 'Harbors Dark World View'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 08/17/2007 2:57:56 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

I thought it was those French existentialists who were supposed to be the gloomy ones, morosely sipping their espressos at Left Bank cafés while contemplating the end of everything. But according to Agence France Presse, of all people it's Fred Thompson who wallows in the Slough of Despond.

Check out this line that AFP, which has an odd corporate status by which it is partially controlled and subsidized by the French government, slipped into the end of an article on Thompson's campaign plans:

He harbors a dark world view of looming future threats and has accused NATO allies of slumbering through a showdown with Al-Qaeda's forces of "nihilism."
For AFP, Thompson's "dark view" is all too real, while Al-Qaeda's nihilism is something to be be sloughed off in scare quotes.

Yes, why can't we be optimistic? Say, like the French in 1939, so sunnily secure against Germany behind the impregnable Maginot Line.

Note: the article focuses more on Thompson-the-actor than on his more serious, senatorial past. Note the headline, TV star Thompson set for 2008 Iowa test-run, and the way the article twice refers to him in the first three paragraphs as a "star" and only once as a former senator.

The French have a history of ignoring threats in the hopes that they will go away.

LOL! What a joke that these effete Commie slave wanna-be’s,
who worthlessly lay around half their pooh pooh-ing,
sneering at everything, lives. Call Thompson a greater
pathetic defeatist, that themselves. The only ones with darker world views that French “intellectuals” are Russian apparatchik, longing for the “good old days” of the KGB, NKVD, GRU, Tass, and Pravda.

dark world view of looming future threats

For AFP, that means people throwing bullets at each other.

The boogey man is coming and panic is setting in! Imagine the freaking going on with Hill and Obama. Meanwhile, Edwards is trying to put lipstick on his hedge fund pig...Fortress funds. They paid him $500 K for work he did for them. He also has 16 million invested in Fortress, known for king profiting from Katrina victims. According to Fox, Edwards says he’ll fix this. He used a euphemism for ‘fix’, I can’t remember what, exactly, but it made it sound insignificant. He’s also moving staff to NH and some other state. CNN admits he has to move up in the polls to be a player.

Just when you think maybe the french are getting a clue they show their true colors. YELLOW dogs flying a white flag.
The french wine and product boycott stays.

“Ronald Reagan was popular and effective because of his personality, not because of his record of achievement as governor of California,” Shea said.”

“His personality fit a need at the time — that’s I think what Republicans are looking for now.”

Perhaps Republicans are looking for Personality in a Candidate, but I believe Conservatives are looking for Vision and Achievement which is what I believe personified Reagan.

Anyone that is looking for reasons to back Fred, will have found (in this article) a great justification for supporting him... if the french hate him... he is a great leader for Western Culture and American security!

What I would like to know is with their own country going down the toilet why are they wasting their time worrying about Fred Thompson.

Its hard to tell, but those soldiers with their hands in the air look more German than French. The guy at the right with his head turned slightly toward our left looks like he’s wearing one of the visored soft caps with the flaps that button over the top when not down.

I thought so too... but I Googled “French Soldiers Surrender” and that’s what I got.

I wonder how much Fred's campaign guys *PAID* this french leftist rag to attack him? He couldn't do better if Pelosi and Reid themselves had made these comments...

sounds more like a ringing endorsement if FDT is actually going to tackle some of the messes we are in!
