Hijackers claiming to have a bomb and to be members of Al-Quaida hijacked a Turkish passenger plane heading from northern Cyprus to Istanbul on Saturday.
The hijackers had asked that the plane be diverted to Iran or Syria but the pilots landed the plane at Antalya airport, near Turkey's Mediterranean coast......

Cyprus...nice place to visit, but as always, a political hotbed.
Actually, I've never known a place where people are less interested in politics.
Mainly they talk about the high cost of living.
Antalya beautiful old city on southern med coast. Airport is joint use TAF and civil. Great hotels on beach, Google Earth east of city on water.
Many younn Russian women tourists there this time of year, looking for Western men.
Appear to be one Palestinian, one Turk. No one hurt.
I still have a beautiful red coat I bought in Antalya. Lovely city.
Did you driveout east of town 10 to 100 KM? Incredible. Take a look on Google earth at the hotels on the beach about 10-15 KM east of downtown. Incredible.
We came in on a cruise ship. It was 3 weeks after the Intifada in Israel began in 2000 so they took Israel off the itinerary (sigh) and put on a couple of other stops, one of which was Antalya.
Beautiful scenery.
What Did The Hijacker Say To The Passengers? “We Are Muslim!”
