U.S. Steps Closer To War With Iran
Asia Times ^ | August 18, 2007 | Kaveh L. Afrasiabi

Posted on 08/19/2007 3:54:28 AM PDT by Fennie

The Bush administration has leaped toward war with Iran by, in essence, declaring war with the main branch of Iran's military, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), which it plans to brand as a terrorist organization. A logical evolution of US President George W. Bush's ill-defined, boundless "war on terror", the White House's move is dangerous to the core, opening the way for open confrontation with Iran. This may begin in Iraq, where the IRGC is reportedly most active and, ironically, where the US and Iran have their largest common denominators. A New York Times editorial has dismissed this move as "amateurish" and a mere "theatric" on the part of the lame-duck president, while at the same time admitting that it represents a concession to "conflict-obsessed administration hawks who are lobbying for military strikes." The political analysts who argue that the main impact of this initiative is "political" are plain wrong. It is a giant step toward war with Iran, irrespective of how well, or poorly, it is thought of, particularly in terms of its immediate and long-term implications, let alone the timing of it...

Hmm, the NYTimes wants Bush to take a nap until Hillary moves into the WH. He’s ‘amateurish’, a ‘lame duck’, and responding to Iranian threats/actions against US soldiers in Iraq is mere ‘theatrics’. How dare he.

Last night CNN mentioned that the Bush admin. had moved closer to a hot war with Iran with their categorization of Iranian Rev. guards as ‘terrorists’. (Must have read the NYTimes.) We can only hope that Bush settles Iran’s hash and soon. Let’s see, if Hill wins in ‘08, what will she and Madame AllNuts give to Iran so we we won’t get nuked? Anything Ahmanijad wants — Global Islamification.

What a hoot. The Iranians have been training and arming the terrorists in Iraq. Now it’s supposed to be us that is stepping closer to war. What a fine how-do-you-do!

Iran has been attacking our people for years by proxy, but of course it’s us portrayed as provoking war, stepping toward it. Bull putty...

It has been proven that Iranian military are killing American G.I.s in Iraq.
Were I president I’d order an attack on Irans nuke facilities as well as all things Iranian military and the critics could piss up a rope.

I'd rather be shot for a lion than shot for a jackal. Let any other country initiate economic actions against the U.S., and it's just "business." Let the U.S. initiate economic actions and the vipers and their assisting Chamberlains begin wailing about < hypervent> the U.S. bringing the world closer to the brink of war.< /hypervent>

I'd rather be shot for a lion, than shot for a jackal. If the U.S. does not take action soon, the only thing our grandkids will know about us is a politically correct historical reference to the evils of the imperial U.S. from 1776 to XXXX (probably printed in Arabic).

This article references a NYT editorial as news. That sure is some top-notch journalism.

Oh, no. It will be something much more concrete. In a word: Israel.

When the Beast enters the WH, her first foreign policy act will be to sell Israel down the river, along with all the idiot, imbecile, moronic, half-wit, numb-skull, nincompoop, meat-head, witless-wonder American Jews who voted for her.

... along with all the ... American Jews who voted for her.

That's something I will never understand. Mrs. Bill Clinton makes out with Yasser Arafat's wife and applauds as Mrs. Arafat accuses Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians and she still gets a huge majority of the Jewish vote in New York.

US at war with Iran? Why not? They’ve been at war with us since 1979. We are finally waking up to it now.

You mean the same Jewish voters that support gun confiscation even though it was one of the first acts by Hitler's government as a prelude to the Holocaust?

Look at the author’s name. Uh huh, just as I expected. Seems like al-Jazeera is going global.

End of article: Kaveh L Afrasiabi, PhD, is the author of After Khomeini: New Directions in Iran's Foreign Policy (Westview Press) and co-author of "Negotiating Iran's Nuclear Populism", Brown Journal of World Affairs, Volume XII, Issue 2, Summer 2005, with Mustafa Kibaroglu. He also wrote "Keeping Iran's nuclear potential latent", Harvard International Review, and is author of Iran's Nuclear Program: Debating Facts Versus Fiction. .

More like our own academia than al-Jazeera. That "PhD" comes from Harvard, and he's been linked with Noam Chomsky. He teaches (or used to) political science in Iran, and founded an "NGO" called "Global Interfaith Peace" that wanted to send a "Peace Brigade" of human shields to Baghdad back in late 2002 before Operation Iraqi Freedom began.

The funny thing about that was while Afrasiabi is based in Iran, Global Interfaith Peace was based in Newton, Mass., and his solicitation for human shields seems to have been entirely in the US. I haven't been able to find anything on whether he actually was able to send anyone. I certainly don't think he was trying to get any Iranians to put their bodies on the line, at least not in this fashion.

It seems to me that he's been serving Iran's interests for many years now. He is essentially the Iranian ambassador to the Western moonbat left.
