Islam Needs an Age of Reason
Newsweek-Wapo ^ | 20 AUG 2007 | Irshad Manji

Love and religion do not always mix. No wonder the most common question sent to my website these days comes from young Muslims in America and Europe. They desperately want to know if they can marry non-Muslims.

Their parents and imams tell them that Islam forbids marriage outside the faith. But that is not necessarily true. Dr. Khaleel Mohammed, a progressive American imam educated at traditional universities in the Middle East, has written a clear defense of inter-faith marriage from an Islamic perspective. I have posted his “blessing” on my website.

Now, this interfaith blessing is such a popular download that I have had to get it translated into several languages to keep up with demand. Welcome to a hot 21st-Century issue, as more Muslims are born in the West or migrate to it, then meet people of other religions.

What this imam did goes beyond matters of the heart. It reflects the power of using the mind to reinterpret the Qur’an for contemporary times. He has captured the spirit of ijtihad (pronounced ij-tee-had), Islam’s own tradition of creative reasoning. As globalization persists and pluralism spreads, both Muslims and non-Muslims need to know that Islam offers a positive alternative to the tribal mentality.

Islam Needs an Age of Reason

Not gonna happen for one reason: There is nothing of the Divine in Islam.

Christianity has been used politically to gain and keep power BUT such practice pulls Christianity away from God. Reason has Truth to work with vis a vis Christianity.

Islam is a hate screed. It is rageing and angry and destructive. It uses human nature to destroy.

I would advise any woman contemplating a marriage to a Muslim to first see the movie, “Not Without My Daughter”.

The top-notch apologist is good at it:

“Now, gentle and pious reader, when this passage from our Holy Scripture says ‘black,’ today we understand it means ‘white.’ In the following six volumes I shall explain why this is so.”

Somehow, I don’t see this happening in Islam. At the very least, there will always be sects like the Wahabbists around to interpret their scripture in the most direct and inhumane way, trivially slicing through all the layers of genteel rhetoric painted on by generations of ‘reformers.’

Bernard Lewis has a similar theory that the Islamic World has not passed through the Enlightenment.

Our western world might not exist without Islam. There’s an interesting book called “Aristotle’s Children”. During the dark ages, we lost the ideas and writings of the Greeks. These writings were alive and well in the Islamic world. We regained these writings and it brought about the renaissance.

The sad part is that while the western world rediscovered the Greeks, the Islamic world eventually rejected the Greeks.

It’s a very interesting period in time. If the Islamic world never embraced the Greeks, it’s possible that their writings could have been lost forever.

Islam already had an age of reason, they just lost it. I wonder if it’s possible for them to rediscover reason... I’m not hopeful.

"Reason" became a part of Christian thinking largely because of Augustine of Hippo, and it has defined Christian thinking ever since. The idea that you can determine the will of god (otherwise known as "truth") through reason is antithetical to Muslim doctrine, but central to Christian.

Saying that they need an age of reason is like saying they need pennies to fall from the sky. They can't get there from here.

Islam Needs an Age of Reason

If the Muslim world (dar al Islam) can jump from the 7th to the 21st century then it is possible. No, methinks even Jesse Owens or Carl Lewis couldn't make that jump either.

Our FAUX Leaders Worship at Satan’s Altar in gratitude for the Islamofacists and their madness.

Our FAUX Leaders are desperate for an excuse to destroy America’s middle class. To strip the American People of their hard won rights and liberties and prosperity...

It is not by accident that our FAUX Leaders; leave Open our Borders, make no legitimate efforts to secure or defend the Nation.

It is not incompetence that leaves Our Children's Schools, Malls, Churches and other places American’s gather unguarded..

Our Faux Leaders believe they need merely make a pretense of action while praying for a Massive Event within the United States by the Mud Slimes to justify the implementation of their Fascistic Nirvana.

Proof?

While doing little or nothing to protect the places mentione above they "prepare" for the "Aftermath" openly and extensively don't they?

They grow impatient as our Islamofacist enemy is relatively incompetent but not entirely stupid.

Elitist efforts to achieve a slaughter of the American Military cut off in Baghdad and Northern Iraq are for naught.

Their purpose?

To break America and American's to the Bit of Internationalist Corporate Tyranny.

How disappointing for the worlds "elite" to discover American Soldiers still stand in the weakest possible state.

That with the full force of Internationalist Corporate Media Propaganda braying like the Asses they are decrying every aspect of America the American People in truth still support their Troops and their Nation. Even when denied the proper means of protection and offense their major Weapons Platforms sitting idle in American Storage Yards, American Troops still fight well.

How frustrating when American Warriors whose actual combatant numbers are minuscule by design and as poorly led by Senior Officers as humanly possible continue to fight and do not break.

The Iranians play their own game us bleeding America both of money and men not seeking decisive victory in Iraq nor to change the American Faux General's deliberately failed Light Fighter Policies. Playing another game entirely.

Think not?

Ask yourself why you have seen as normal course of action but One IED explode at a time when US Forces are attacked? That it is not the norm to see follow up blasts. (while they do occasionally occur they are not the norm) One to disable then many others to cause mass casualties among those performing rescue and recovery operations..It is because the Iranian Generals play US Faux Generals like cheap fiddle

Why?

Because if that took place consistently US Company Grade Officers would soon openly reject and demand change to the Generals Asinine Orders to drive around Iraq in impossible to properly armor wheeled vehicles.

They would quickly reject the FAUX General's "Stability and Support Operation" Crap and demand the right to wage WAR with sufficient Armor to protect the force not the Wheeled Crap O Matics they are currently given.

Even the Iranians know full well the dangers of a sufficiently aroused American People.

They tread carefully seeking that which for them is most critical..TIME.

Islam is a problem

Russia is a problem

China is a problem

Many different problems in the world.

They are not however

"The Problem".

"The Problem" for America is our Faux Leadership...

Whores for money and power.

With no love of Country nor for We the People.

"creative reasoning" is a condradiction in terms, a misnomer. Reason has nothing to do with being creative.

The Judeo-Christian ethos grew up in parallel with the development of reason by the Hellenes, and has been remarkably compatible with the latter. Whereas the Koran rejects reason on practically every page. Can’t happen. You’ll either have reason or you’ll have Koran. There can be no synthesis.
