WASHINGTON - The U.S. military was forced by Afghanistan to scrub some secret counterterror missions after killing innocent civilians caught in a crossfire with Al Qaeda fighters, the Daily News has learned.
In one previously undisclosed case last April, angry Afghan officials ordered a month-long temporary halt to U.S. kill-or-capture raids in Nangarhar Province after civilians died in a battle, a U.S. military source in Afghanistan told The News.
The victims were women and children used as human shields by Al Qaeda militants inside a compound where a firefight broke out with an elite Navy SEAL team, a source told The News.
Four of the Al Qaeda operatives were killed as they hid behind the civilians during the shootout, the source added.
"That [stop] order could be overridden at a very high level in an emergency if the intelligence was really solid," the source said. "The target had to be a big guy."

defeatocrat murtha and the rest of the blame-America crowd should be proud...
You gotta break some eggs in order to cook up the omelette of freedom.
A few months ago it was MARSOC Marines, now it’s SEALS. These guys are the best there is or ever will be. You can not tell them how to fight or do their job. Get out of their way or pull them out.
If the Afghans won’t let us do the job, they don’t need to complain next time a suicide bomber kills civilians.
I agree 100% but I would just prefer the comment “Get out of their way.” These warriors have been trained to the nth degree, they will do the right thing and limit, to their ability, the amount of civilians hurt or killed during a mission. If the Afghans don’t like it well tough $hit.
Also read “Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Hero's of SEAL Team 10” for an idea of what happens when our Special Ops guys can’t make certain decisions for fear of being prosecuted by our own government.
excellent response
So this cutting edge, breaking news is from last April?
As you can see at the link it is from yesterday
This will continue until after the harvest then they will complain about inaction.
