My bishop is over 1200 churchs and 300,000 people.
Since there are approx. 2000 Catholic Dioceses in the USA, and there are approximately 60 million Catholics, then each diocese has about 30,000 people.
The Roman Catholic Church is likey hundreds times larger than the LDS Church. I would gather the Mitt was over the congregations of all of Massachusetts (or wherever he held his position). There is only one Stake in Massachusetts http://www.gatheringofisrael.com/atlas/north_america/united_states/MA_massachusetts.gif.
Today, Catholics in Utah number well over a hundred thousand, including 63 parishes and missions, and 17 Catholic schools. An area of nearly 85,000 square miles comprises the Diocese of Salt Lake City.
