Campaign to impeach Gov. Perry launched online

AUSTIN — A political activist dedicated to independent candidates and third-party tickets has launched a new Internet site dedicated to impeaching Gov. Rick Perry.

Linda Curtis, founder of Independent Texans, launched the site to call on the Legislature to draft articles of impeachment against Perry in 2009.

Curtis noted that Texas does not have the right of recall, so petitioning the Legislature to impeach the governor is the only answer when citizens are unhappy.

When asked about the new Impeach Perry Web site, Perry spokesman Robert Black responded by saying: "Free speech is a wonderful thing."

Curtis said the two main reasons for seeking Perry's impeachment is his continuing push for the Trans-Texas Corridor toll road from Laredo to Oklahoma despite citizen opposition and his veto of $154 million in funds for junior colleges.

Other reasons listed by Curtis include the passage of the new state franchise tax that taxes some business partnerships for the first time; his mandate that sixth-grade girls be vaccinated against HPV (a mandate overturned by the Legislature); and the creation of the Residential Construction Commission, which she sees as protection for builders who do shoddy construction.

Curtis noted the last Texas governor to be impeached was James "Pa" Ferguson in 1917 after he vetoed the budget for the University of Texas.

"We intend to take this campaign out across the state, to all political camps, and to neuter this administration," Curtis said.

"Whether or not that leads to Perry's impeachment will be up to the Legislature. Let's see if history does indeed repeat itself."

I live in the Austin area too and I don’t know a single person who wants the TTC.

It’s REAL nice to support your Repub?? Governor but, this one is a serious joke. He another Lib retread left over from the Blue to Red switcher rooney.

But to go from not liking TTC to impeaching Perry is an absurity.

As for being a Lib, well Gov Goodhair’s a pro-life, pro-tort reform, willing-to-cut-spending, pro-property-tax-reduction, pro-gun rights, Lib, which is better than a Foghorn Leghorn Strayhorn ex-RINO-now-Indy Lib or a Chicken D in-pockets-of-tort-lawyers-and-Mecha/LaRaza Lib any day.
Besides, you can’t expect too much from Perry, he’s just an Aggie.

Texas should pass a law like most states to require a runoff election between the top two candidates if no one reaches either 45% or 50%+1.

A lot of time, they'll build roads on land with no people on it or purchase it. But they're planning to just sieze it via the power of government. Is that now a conservative value?

Eminent domain has been with us since the dawn of governance.
The 5th Amendment ensure no takings without due process, and BTW they do not just seize it, there is compensation in all such cases.

The conservative value is to keep any such taking to its essential purpose only, which includes road-building.
Conservatives have protested Kelo and are restricted eminent domain where we can.

Texas Republicans and Rick Perry did the right thing and passed bills protecting property rights in these cases.

MEXICO CITY — Leading a large delegation of Texas executives trying to drum up business in Mexico, Gov. Rick Perry on Tuesday criticized the U.S. Congress for failing to pass an immigration bill that would legalize millions of workers. "I don't think this is that difficult an issue if Congress would have the maturity to sit down and really discuss it and cut out all the mean rhetoric," Perry said during a break in the third day of meetings with Mexican officials and business executives. COMMENTS Perry did a "Dixie Chick"---criticizing the US while on foreign soil. This should not be treated as a small slip of the tongue.

It appears Perry is trying to influence the measures or conduct of Mexico WRT disputes or controversies with the United States, and/or trying to defeat the measures of the United States in collusion with the Mexican government.

BACKUP In June 2007, Representative Steve King introduced legislation that would prohibit Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi from traveling to Syria and violated The Logan Act. The amendment was not adopted. The Logan Act is a United States federal law that forbids unauthorized citizens from negotiating with foreign governments. It was passed in 1799 and last amended in 1994. Violation of the Logan Act is a felony, punishable under federal law with imprisonment of up to three years.

Texas Governor Rick Perry is being called to task by an author and investigative journalist for vetoing bills that would have blocked construction of the controversial Trans-Texas Corridor.

Dr. Jerome Corsi has been one of the leading voices warning the American public about the consequences of the Trans-Texas Corridor, which will be part of a superhighway -- purported to be four football fields wide -- that will allow Mexican trucks to enter the U.S. and traverse the core of the country all the way to Canada.

The best-selling author asserts that Governor Perry cleared the way for construction to begin in his state when he vetoed several bills passed by the Legislature that would have stalled the project.

"Governor Perry has been 100 percent gung-ho in building this road," says Corsi. "The Legislature voted a two-year moratorium, it voted a redefinition of eminent domain -- [and] Governor Perry vetoed them. [On] at least one of those measures, he waited until the Texas Legislature was out of session so it couldn't even override his veto."

Corsi says it is unfortunate that there has been political pressure to get the project started. "The Federal Highway Administration's lawyer wrote letters threatening the Texas Legislature to cut off federal highway funds if they got in the way of this Trans-Texas Corridor," he says.

Corsi believes the same pressure will be applied on other states, like Oklahoma, to go along with the project. He suggests that would mean a loss of more American jobs and could pose a threat to U.S. sovereignty.

Actually Perry obviously thinks he can run again in 2010 (that's what he was saying before he did his TTC veto Boo-boo)...and may be harboring Presidential ambitions. He was invited...and went to this year's Bilderberger Conference.

He also is apparently widely regarded as the "most travelled" Governor in the country, in the sense that he makes more rounds of State political events where Republicans gather. Just was in California, and espousing a nominally conservative "values" line.

Apparently, smaller government and accepting the limits that the voters wish to put on government doesn't seem to be one of those values.

The veto of the 2 year moratorium on the TTC timed so that it couldn't be overturned because the Legislature was out of session just really really sucks. It should, by rights, stick in the craw of any honest American, let alone Texans.
