From the article:
The situation was exemplified by last week's Southern African Development Community summit in Zambia, where Mr Mugabe was welcomed with thunderous applause.

Appears that Adolf Hitler is alive and well and found a new home as the Dictator of Zimbabwe. And crowds still love him...

[ /sarcasm off ]

Mugabe has not killed the millions that Hitler did. But some of the atrocities and the number of people brutally starved to death may exceed some of the worst that the Third Reich did...

At least the Nazis were kind enough to gas people rather than intentionally starve people to death over a long period time...

There is one story that I heard circa 2002 that one dissenter had lost almost every major organ is his stomach. This dissenter was quite well known. And it was a British Medical Doctor who told me the story (Doctor Dawn). Too bad the IDIOTS in the media do not interview people in Zimbabwe and get the truth out...

The deliberate nature of the starvation program is more reminiscent of Stalin in the Ukraine than Hitler. No past nor postmodern leader has so decimated so large a percentage of his own population.

Does anyone on my ping list recall the name of the Zimbabwean minister who I brought to your attention several years ago?

He promised that 7 million people would die within two years. That was in 2002. With so many people finding ways to keep themselves alive so that the rest of the world could come to their rescue, it’s a testament to man’s resilience.

I am so disgusted with us in the West who have so little to say to our craven anti-human Western pessimists who see the Zimbabweans starving and think to themselves: “Well, 7 million less people on the planet is a good start.”

You people — and you know who you are — are disgusting. I know that God damns you.

Precisely!

I do remember discussing this, but not the particulars.

I will not disagree with the sheer numbers of people killed of his own population that Stalin killed.

I was referring to how popular a leader Hitler was and how Africa is applauding Mugabe for his genocide.

In other words, the old newsreels showing Nazi crowds applauding the speeches of Hitler...

Genocide?

Genocide is the deliberate and systematic destruction of an ethnic, religious or national group.

The word and description does not apply.

I think that in percentage terms Pol Pot in Cambodia deliberately murdered a similar proportion of his countrymen. In raw numbers, of course, no one has ever matched up to Stalin and Mao Tse Tung.

Of course this is all Bush’s fault/sarc off!

I believe that Zimbabweans count as a national group. The fact that most of them are still alive (NOW), and that the murderer is a member of the group does not affect the fact that this IS genocide.

Genocide is the deliberate and systematic destruction of an ethnic, religious or national group.

That's what this is.

Zimbabwe is not as stark as others. There are no cattle cars and gas chambers. There are no machete-wielding gangs roaming the countryside. There are no helicopter gunships or Janjaweed. The killing in Zimbabwe is slow, oftentimes indirect, and not particularly bloody. But Mugabe's campaign of mass murder against those who oppose him has been no less deliberate than any of the other genocides in human history.

It all began with Mugabe's land seizures in 2000, in which he booted white farmers from the property they owned and replaced them with political hacks who have no interest in agriculture.... [Snip] As early as 2002, the BBC was reporting that people in Matabeleland, the southern region of the country where the minority Ndebele tribe lives, were starving. That same year, on the eve of a massive drought, the Minister of Zimbabwean State Security said, "We would be better off with only six million people--with our own who support the liberation struggle. We don't want all these extra people." Today, according to the World Food Program, 38 percent of Zimbabweans are malnourished.

[Snip]

Meanwhile, Mugabe's party, ZANU-PF, is wielding the food shortage as a weapon against the opposition. The government's Grain Marketing Board frequently denies food aid to people in districts that voted against Mugabe in recent elections; only those with ZANU-PF membership cards are able to get rations. Several people I spoke with in Harare's poor township of Hatcliffe told me that the army and the police regularly interfere with food distribution from USAID, UNICEF, and other international aid groups. In 2002, USAID director Andrew Natsios publicly scolded Mugabe for manipulating American food aid, a practice that has continued unabated. And a 2004 Amnesty International report warned that "[T]he government has used the food shortages for political purposes and to punish political opponents."

[Snip]

Incidentally, the starvation and transfer of Mugabe's opponents isn't the first time he has has unleashed a genocidal campaign against his own people. Not long after taking power, in the mid-'80s, Mugabe's North Korean-trained ZANU-PF army killed an estimated 25,000 Ndebeles (the minority tribe to Mugabe's own Shona majority) in an operation known as the Gukurahundi (Shona for "the early rain which washes away the chaff"). The Matabeleland massacre ended, once and for all, any Ndebele challenge to Mugabe's power.

There you have it: The killings are directed by tribal distinctions. Therefore this is absolutely a genocide, by definition.

“Genocide?”

By the lights of socialism, there can be no other outcome - social justice and liberation require it.

Instead of the ‘Socialism or Death’ sloganeering of the demagogue, actual history displays numerous examples of ‘Socialism AND Death’.

Frankly speaking, an ideology rooted in hatred of humankind can have no other outcome.
