Breaking Down Which Republican Is Most Likely To Get The GOP Nomination
Right Wing News ^ | August 20, 2007 | John Hawkins

Posted on 08/21/2007 9:01:01 PM PDT by Josh Painter

For this post, I'm going to set aside my personal preferences in the 2008 race and talk about which candidates are most likely to capture the nomination. Keep in mind that it is still early and the race is very fluid, so this analysis could and probably will change quite a bit over the next few months.

Fred Thompson (40%): He's polling in 2nd place nationally right now, but he has more grass roots support amongst the activists and bloggers than any other candidate and he's the only solid conservative in the top tier.

Rudy Giuliani (25%): He's polling the top slot and has been for a while. He's also very charismatic and has a big war chest saved up. However, he's well to the left of most primary voters and has a lot of baggage. That makes me think he is going to have a lot of trouble closing the deal with the base before all is said and done.

Mitt Romney (15%): He has a lot charisma, is raising money like crazy, and has a solid strategy (Win Iowa and New Hampshire and hope that catapults him to the top of the heap). However, Romney, for whatever reason, seems to be having a lot of trouble getting traction nationally which suggests that he may not have what it takes to win the nomination...

Hawkins supports Duncan Hunter in the race and formerly worked for Hunter's campaign.

Somehow, someway, maybe, there will be a spot for Hunter in this whole thing with Fred, at lest he deserves it right now. He is a good guy.

Of course since Fred is liberal that is old, worn out, dead, cheats on his finances and has a stupid bimbo for a wife it is all irrelevant...

Yawn...

I like FRed’s chances...also wouldn’t mind seeing Duncan and Tancredo’s numbers go up as well.

There is no question as to who the conservative is and that is HUNTER.For some reason Thompson just seems to be part of the old boy network.Same sh*t as before. The other two, rooooty and flip flop are a joke.A cross dresser and a used car salesman.Pathetic choices imo.

A Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter ticket would sure get me interested in the Republican Party again, at least enough to go straight GOP one more time.

The despicable Bill Maher said on Bill O'Reilly tonight that he'd like to see "the Cross-dresser and the Mormon" make up the GOP Ticket in '08. Bill O' asked, "Who's the cross-dresser" and then tried to brush it off as "the Saturday Night Live thing". But, Bill Maher said there's "five different pictures" of Rudy Julie Annie in drag.

I've said for months that if Rudy Julie Annie gets the nomination, those pics of him in drag will go around the world via the internet. That will not sell well in the Red States South.

I love Hunter. But being right isn't everything. If you're running for President, you're running for the job of influencing people for the good and motivating them to action—that is to say, being a leader. To prove you're able to do that is the job of a Presidential candidate. Dunc is now a great Congressman. Is he able to build a national organization, and influence people to support him? If he isn't, how good a President will he make? He's right on the issues, but does he have the strategy and the communicating ability to bring the rest of the country with him? That's the President's job.

I wouldn't fault Thompson for being in with the old-boy network. The test is whether that's an end for him, or if he uses it as a means to get the right things done. As far as I'm concerned, part of Fred's job is to reintroduce the American people to Federalism after a 150-year hiatus. So far, I like what I see.

I guess you need a sarcasm tag. Too bad, they look so much better without them...

It won’t be Hunter. He’s too conservative for the GOP.

Just what we need as conservatives - a globalist CFR member! NOT!

More of the same is exactly right. He is already surrounding himself with the RINO Establishment.

If we can keep Rep. Hunter afloat financially, the cream will rise to the top. It always does.

This blogger has Fred at 40%, but FDT can be purchased for 18% at Intrade. He should be buying up FDT at the bargain price of 18% and make himself rich.

You see you dog me without looking at my tag line above, and here I am agreeing with.

As a proud southerner, I can tell you that Julie Annie will go over like a lesbian judge at a Miss Teen USA pageant...
