Chandler school officials have suspended a 13-year-old boy for sketching a picture that resembled a gun, saying it posed a threat to classmates.
But parents of the Payne Junior High School student said the drawing was a harmless doodle of a fake laser, and school officials overreacted.
"I just can't believe that there wasn't another way to resolve this," said Paula Mosteller, the boy's mother. "He's so upset. The school made him feel like he committed a crime. They are doing more damage than good."
The Mostellers said the drawing did not show blood, bullets, injuries, or target any human. They said it was just a drawing that resembled a gun.
But Payne Junior High administrators thought the sketch was enough of a threat and gave the boy a five-day suspension, later reduced to three days.

“P-51s strafing Panzers was my specialty.”
I always got busted doing it because I just had to supply the sound effects while drawing.
The school said he “posed a danger to other students”. I can’t imagine how, unless he had access to drawings of ammo and the “other students” were drawn on paper.
It’s not like he drew a picture of something insidious and dangerous to liberty like a Democrat (or, unfortunately, a Republican)!
My senior year, I wrote a short story about a young knight who fought with King Arthur and ends up dying and going to Heaven, where he meets his father and Jesus; and another about a Third World War between the United States and Russia (this was the early 1990's). I ended up getting all kinds of praise for the stories, but if a student tried to turn something like that in today, either would cause all kinds of chaos and would likely result in the poor kid being suspended.
What caliber is the 1886? Is it original?
The 1861 isn’t a very common replica. It’s a Navy Colt from 1851 that they made to look like the 1860 .44 but as a .36 caliber.
The 1886 is a 40.86; one of the original 5 calibers. I have a confirmation from Winchester that the gun shipped from the factory around 1895 (I’d have to find the confirmation to get the exact date).
The Colt is the US 1861 Army Model, 44 caliber. It was the model issued to the Union forces during the Civil War. The 1851 Colt, .36 caliber, was the Navy Model.
Now you’re confusing the heck out of me. The Cartridges of the World lists a 40-82 that they say was for the 1886. There’s no mention of a 40-86. It’s listed as obsolete but they recommend you buy .45 basic cases that can be cutdown.
As far as the Colts go, according to the Flayderman guide, the 1851, of course was in .36. They then made the slim framed 1860 in .44. They followed that with a copy that looks exactly like the 1860 but called it the 1861 and chambered back to .36.
You’re very fortunate to have originals. I can only afford replicas. I have to be careful though, since a lot of those Italian “Replicas” never existed in the first place.
Eve was deceived by the Serpents words, Adam was not. So, greater responsibilty was required from him. He knew what he was doing: disobeying the distinct Commandments of The KING of Kings.
Hope the family sues the pants off the administrators

We’re on the same page. It’s just hard not to fill in the blanks sometimes.
It looks like a he drew a trigger lock on it. They should reward him for making it useless for self-protection.
You and me both. Heck we used to wear our knives to school. We even went shooting on school property out behind the old autoshop building with a HS faculty member a couple times, plinking with his .22 rifle.
We pledged the flag, we took tylenol if we needed it, and when we got out of line we didn’t take prozac we got our a$$e$ beat till we got back in line.
We sang songs like “Glory glory hallelujah teacher hit me with a ruler I met him at the bank with a big ol army tank and he aint my teacher any more!!!” and our teachers found it as funny as we did.
It goes on forever. I’d probably be imprisoned if I had to endure what our boys have to these days.
...for sketching a picture that resembled a gun...
To me it resembles the clinton museum trailer to nowhere.

How can you draw a gun if you don’t have any hands? You have made an excellent point.
WOW, that’s a great side-by-side comparison. Should be emailed to that administrator, whom I would bet is a liberal.
The Cold is an 1860. I had the year wrong, confusing the year the pistol came out with the year the war started. Sorry for the errors.
