10 years on many remain convinced Diana was murdered in a sinister plot
LONDON, England (Reuters) -- Two major investigations by French and British police concluded that Princess Diana's death in a Paris car crash was a tragic accident, but 10 years on many remain convinced she was murdered in a sinister plot.
Princess Diana was 36 when she was killed in a car crash in 1997.
1 of 2 The usual suspects cited by conspiracy theorists include Britain's royal family -- because they were unhappy Diana was to marry her lover, Muslim Dodi al-Fayed -- or arms dealers, because they were angry at her support for a ban on landmines.
"They were killed as a result of a wicked conspiracy by people who did not want the princess to marry my son and were fearful of what she could say and do," Dodi's father Mohamed, the leading murder theory protagonist, told Reuters.
And there are some truly bizarre hypotheses.
These suggest leaders of a "new world order" assassinated her because she wouldn't marry former U.S. President Bill Clinton, or that she was killed as part of a Satanic ritual, or even that she is still alive having faked her own death.

Predictably, a succession of shallow jokes about names, alleged royal misconducts (as reported by those well-known purveyors of truth, the tabloid press, main prop Rupert Murdoch, aka main financer to the Australian republican movement, by some amazing coincidence).
There is actually a serious side to this: Why do so many people these days believe conspiracy stories? The more outlandish, the better. As a previous correspondant very directly put it, the most likely reason Diana died was that her chauffeur got very drunk and drove too fast. It’s called Occam’s razor - the most likely explanation is probably the truth, but oh no, in a post-modern we-dont-trust-anyone-or-anything-in-authority society, raised on unlikely but neatly packaged soap operas, there always has to be a deeper, hidden motive. Thus:
The moon landings were all faked.
Elvis is alive and living in the Sahara in a double-decker bus.
Evil American neo-imperialists, helped by the oil companies, used the CIA to set up 9/11 so they could declare a crusader war on Iraq and ultimately Iran.
People actually believe this twaddle. Not stupid people either! They’re so sure the government is “covering up” they automatically filter everything so that a theory of a conspiracy fits. The government mislays millions on stupid projects, routinely sends tax returns to your dead aunt hilda - and yet, people think this same government is capable of organising deception on a massive scale?
I despair sometimes. I really do. What is the use of telling the truth when lies can be so attractively packaged?
All such villains have limitless power, limitless intelligence, and limitless evil.
We are weaving our own cheap myth and epic based on our experience. In the absence of decent religion, people may think they are rational and realistic now, but the void left by absence of religion, is filled with these substitutes.
Some of the conspiracy they spew is much worse than believing that Earth is only 6,000 years old. Still these conspiracy theorists waste no time belittling creationist view like that, believing that they are so beyond such "superstition."
They do not realize that they jumped out of one belief system and into its cheap substitute.
There is a God-shaped slot in all of us, and it has to be filled, somehow, someway. There is a very true saying - “when people stop believing in God, they dont start believing in just nothing. They start believing in everything”. So I agree with you, in the absence of true faith, people will adopt false faith, in anything.
An even more serious tinfoil theory: She’d be alive today if she’d just worn a seat belt. All she really is is the world class poster girl for the seat belt industry.

and if they had taken her to the OR right away instead of treating her in the ambulance driving slowly. Also her title is Diana, Princess of Wales..only born princesses can be Princess Diana et al. Nice CNN! Cant even get that right!

Because they follow those who pretend for a living,hollywood. They can create something and then believe it.Global warming? Jews bad,Bush bad etc. I think everyone should come up with a new conspiracy theory and see how far it goes.The sadness of it all is that today there is no real truth for some people.
