LOS ANGELES – In the annals of takeovers, it was among the mellowest. A group calling itself Guerrilla Gay Bar, gay men looking to crash straight hangouts with the intent of turning them predominantly gay for a moment in time, set its sights on Venice Beach one recent Saturday.

No, you have it wrong. They don’t want to hang with heteros. They want to bully their way into places where normal people congregate just to prove they can. If they really wanted to just hang out somewhere different, they wouldn’t find it necessary to publicize it and “make a statement.” Normal people don’t gather a group of 200 to go to a different bar. They just decide to go with a couple of friends and then go already! These people are narcissistic idiots and bullies.

I thought they just wanted to be left alone and not try to impose their lifestyles on anyone else?

I notice at the end of the article they are contemplating adding churches as a target. That goes beyond a simple desire to broaden their customary venues and says a lot about their ulterior motives. The article makes the action sound benign but I very much doubt all the participants have the same mindset.

I was just wondering if there were places there where gays would normally feel unwelcome.

Thanks for the clarity. I know of no bar/restaurant that gays would be made to feel 'unwelcome' in. Though because of the clientel in some, they may not want to go in. But this would be limited to the types of places that most reasonable people do not go into (seedier joints in rough sections)

No, you have it wrong. They don’t want to hang with heteros.

It may be a shocking concept but let me suggest you actually read the article, ChocChipCookie.

They seem to have noble intent by being aware of many failings of the "gay scene" and even aware of heterophobia among some of their peers.

If 70 gays coming into "straight bar" over a period of two hours is bullying to you, I suggest a little self examination.

How does taking over a beach or a bar for a day and making it ‘gay’ end their ghettoization in predominantly gay hangouts?

They aren't making it 'gay' because the places presumably retain their identity which would not be hyper-focused on producing sexual encounters. The article itself shows members of the group complaining about a heterophobic attitude, anonymous sex and drug abuse being too prevalent in the gay ghetto. That 'club' subculture turns off and embarrasses many homosexuals who see it as being the public face of their kind.

I applaud any efforts they're making to show others there's more to life than finding your next anonymous sex partner.

Despite the “gay” moniker, homosexuals are some of the most unhappy people in society. Their quest for a pleasure-based happiness has led them into a life of perversion, anonymous sex, addiction, disease and spiritual isolation.

You make a mistake in assuming all homosexuals embrace the "out" culture which excessively promotes pleasure-based happiness and go hand-in-hand with the ghetto/club culture of anonymous sex, addiction, disease, etc.

I've known a number of homosexuals who aren't part of that behavior pattern and even openly embarrassed by its close identification with being homosexual. They may not be happy but they aren't drowning their sorrows in the manners you describe. This group, described in the article, seems to be a reaction to a bit of disgust with the "out" or "club" sub-cultures of the gay community. I applaud their efforts.

causing a place to have a homosexual reputation is a sure fire way to kill a business frequented by normal people.

Their conduct is disgusting because they are endangering businesses with their stigma. IF homosexuals were really as you say then they should just go about their business instead of trying to “mark territory”, even temporarily, at the expense of honest business.

If there are a RARE minority as you say, then they are VERY VERY RARE. It seems exhibitionist style presentations to publicly declare how they pop orgams are just part of their sexual fetish.

Wouldnt a forceful groping of the butt warrant a sexual assault? Its a unwanted sexual contact.Or does a person have to get felt up by gays rather than defending yourself?
