If anyone sees this as just a motorcycle issue they are in dire need of a wake up call.......incremental ism for revenue is destroying this nation.

Every city, county, state etc has a noise ordinance and a disturbing the peace law. Usually it is set from 9M to 10PM .

This is one more nanny BS revenue based POS law.

No I do not own a Motorcycle, Boom Box on wheels or muscle car........

This is pure crap !

anti reversion pipes like my old supertraps reduced noise while maxing out those horses especially after replacing my cylinders, pistons and porting the heads...I used to give the those rice burners fits at traffic lights with all that low end torque but many got me after a 1/4 mile with their top end. I miss that 1200+

I would prefer to ride rather than listen to the darned things. People waking up entire neighborhoods are a fact of life that needs to be changed. I have been tempted to shoot at my neighbor at 2:00 am when he fires up and roars around the block.

I've wired my car horn so it's always on. I just drive around with it blaring away. It's about safety, you wouldn't understand...

LOL. Perfect reply.

does the neighbors Wide Glide hurt your poor widdle ears.

They're wide all right, like the asses I see perched on them.

Seriously, you boys need to get rid of those things and either walk or ride a pedal-bike.

You'd get some exercise, and we'd preserve our hearing.

That's win-win.

Stay away from New York, Lancaster,Pennsylvania, and Denver, Colorado, while riding my Harley? Sounds like a plan to me...There are several other cities that could pass these types of ordinances and wouldn’t affect me a bit...Aren’t these areas full of blue voters?

I don’t hear many motorcycles even though I live on a busy city street. The loud car stereos are a different story, they rattle the front windows of my house. I smile when I hear them though, because as clever as they think they are now, their hearing is going to be destroyed when they are older. I am guessing it will be the same for the motorcycle riders too.

gee...good thing nobody is stereotyping here! *grin*

Especially not those who drive evil road hogging, economy ruining, earth polluting, gas guzzling SUVs, shoot LOUD guns, shoot off their LOUD mouths with ignorant comments...whose kids are too LOUD & disturb the neighborhood...and I really like the folks who complained about the once a year bike event in their town and how absolutely annoying it was that the scumbag bikers $$ offset their taxes and that was ok but that they need to be quieter...but of course had NOTHING to say about those very LOUD fourth of July fireworks each year...that their taxes DID have to pay for!

So I suppose it depends on who’s ox is being gored huh?!?

And yes...I ride a loud bike, shoot loud guns, have a loud mouth, enjoy the fireworks, drove a ‘69 Camaro with headers and cherry bombs, drive a large gas guzzling truck and enjoy the fireworks (many of which explode in my own yard each year)...so there!

But...the stereotyping is still amusing...actually...sounds like a bunch of grouchy bitter geezers sloshing around in their soiled depends at the old folks home with nothing to do but whine while they suffer the detox symptoms of the Geritol withdrawals.

Oops...did I just stereotype...well...if everyone else can stereotype I guess I can too....riiiiiight?

...I can't?...but why not?

Oh...that's right...cause people who ride motorcycles...AKA Bikers...really ARE dirt bags...legend has it.

LOL, that's right up there with Al Gore saving the planet. Both loud, both gaseous and neither correct.

Granted. The last thing we want is another law.

But if I were to shoot one, they'd call me a murderer! I'd go to jail, or worse!

So where's the justice in that?

I say, when they make their noise, and let me make mine!

Okay, I'll pay a fine, say $25, so the county removes the carcass. Duty and all..

“As of July 1, riders in New York City are subject to a minimum $440 fine for having a muffler or exhaust system audible more than 200 feet.”

The HD’s that the NYPD operates can be heard at 200 feet+.Not when they idle, but when they accelerate. In fact the scooters that a lot of messengers operate in NYC can be heard at 200 feet and they sound like weed whackers. These ordinances are really open to selective enforcement. I run a ‘67 Triumph that has the stock cans on it. DEFINITELY can hear that at 200 feet at IDLE. It doesn’t make the extreme pop and crackle of a shovelhead with shorty turnouts but still...When I ran this bike in the ‘70s, I got ticketed more than once for disturbing the peace (and other fictional regulations like “demonstration of excessive speed”) for just riding it through sleepy burgs in the early AM hours. Any officer inclined towards harassment (and it’s been my experience that they are the minority in most places) is going to pull you over with or without these ordinances. Your chances of being pulled over will increase if you:

1.Aren’t “clean cut”
2.Are operating a bike that isn’t “stock” (the further removed, the higher the risk)
3.Operate your machine in a manner that is or appears unsafe/unlawful
4.Stare at the Police

In fact, those four points would likely apply to car drivers as well.In some measure, also to Pedestrians.

For those of you who applaud this kind of legislation, think of where it could logically lead - Regulations on ALL motor vehicles that prohibit ANY alteration of said motor vehicle compared to the state in which it was originally sold to the public and was certified by the DOT. First comes no alteration of the exhaust then you get no alteration of the vehicles engine then No Alteration of the vehicles suspension, tires, wheels. .....Don’t be so quick to dismiss this eventuality. Other regulations exist in some states that were expressly written to remove certain types or classes of vehicles from the road. When last I was in PA (admittedly some time ago), a DMV reg said that there could be no RUST on your vehicle or it was out of State inspection compliance. That regulation was put in the books to weed out older cars that were seen as unsafe in the lawmaker’s eyes. Enterprising people solved their problems with Bondo.

Back to bikes

Straight Pipes are really only good for one thing: DRAG RACING where you are opening the throttle to the stop. For any “real world” riding, you need the back pressure that a muffler provides. Tuning and properly jetting your carbs - be it a single or multiple to take advantage of the top-end gains that straight pipes can provide almost always makes the motor perform sub-par at lower rev ranges.

I’d rather listen to this than that Hip Hop crap at 20Hz at the stoplight or even while they drive by my home. Twenty Hz must be mechanical resonance for their crappy cars as they have vibrated loose.

Shoot someone for making noise ?

Well if ya must, and they are a democrat ........:o)

I don’t like the Boom Boxes on Wheels or Loud Mufflers on vehicles anymore than most here or there yet just as we have reckless driving to cover fools on their cell phones we have a disturbing the peace law in most places in America.

What ya gonna shoot em with ?

We’ll turn this thread into gun porn ........LOL !

Stay safe !

For God's sake, don't go near the old folks' home.

Not that they mind the noise--most are totally or near deaf, but you'd likely knock one out of their wheel-chair.

Have you ever heard birds singing? I'm talking song-birds, that go tweet, not crows or blue jays.

Have somebody take you to a place where you can hear those sounds, somebody with a muffler.

Just listen a few minutes, and you'll appreciate your ears.

This whole thread reminds me of a woman I used to date...

She loved to go riding on the back of my bike. She was also insanely jealous of every other woman on the planet. Always had some disparaging remark about other women, or at the very least a colorful euphamism for a title to slap upon them behind their backs. It finally got too annoying and I had to leave,....ANYWAY...

All of the other women that either rode on the back of a bike, as she did, or those who rode their own bike, she called BIKER BROADS...every single one of them. Finally I asked her what was the difference between her and all the other women she referred to as BIKER BROADS...

...*crickets*...she had no answer.

She never could see beyond her own hypocrisy....like many of the most vocal alleged conservatives here on this thread.

humorous reading actually.

What’s “conservative” about thinking that one has a “right” to make an ear-splitting racket that disturbs other people just trying to sleep or enjoy the use of their own property? With rights come reponsibilities, a concept seemingly lost on a lot of people. What we have on the roads now, as far as noise goes, is essentially anarchy. Since writing a consistent, measurable noise law is difficult, we will probably see the default being to require stock exhausts, which have already been measured and approved by the DOT. It’s unfortunate, but many people have irresponsibly used their “freedom” to make themselves a nuisance to everyone else.
