Who Will Take Out Mitt?

Romney’s growth nationally has been steady-as-she-goes, without the ups and downs that characterize a mature base of support. (It kind of reminds me of Dean’s growth in 2003.) His rise in IA and NH has been dizzying and remarkable, clearly helped by his unchallenged early ads. What happens when someone starts dropping 1,000 points on flip-flops in WHO-TV in Des Moines? (…”another flip-flopper from Massachussetts?”…) Isn’t Romney especially vulnerable to this? As we’ve seen in the myriad YouTube clips, his inconsistencies are easily channeled on video in a way that parsing Fred’s NRTL rating is not...

None of the candidates will do this — it’s not in their interest to get drawn into a one-on-one battle with anyone. A 527 would have to, forcing Romney to double down with his own money. And then the perception of Romney as a self-funded candidate will further set in.

Furthermore, the fundamentals are starting to point south for Romney — in a little bit the same way they were totally out of whack for McCain. His problem is how does he product-differentiate from Fred? Yes, there is the “laziness” factor and the fact that Romney does six events a day in Iowa, but do non-political junkies care? Are all those events and all those ads simply buying him a nodding assent from Iowa conservatives not on the payroll, or a crawl-over-broken-glass type fanaticism that will be difficult for others to overcome. I’d argue the former.

But those concern pale in comparison to the evidence that’s starting to align for Romney as a bad general election candidate against Hillary. To begin with, he starts with higher negatives than Hillary (I know. This shocked me too). And a series of battleground state polls confirm it too...

The communistoids in Hollywood have started the attacks on his religion. “September Dawn” coming to theaters near you.

Not saying that this event didn’t happen. But I find the timing of its release interesting.

Perhaps they should do a remake of “Deliverance” to balance things out.

Get used to it. The liberal media, and Hollywood elite are going to do whatever it takes to elect Hillary.

Probably not Duncan, although I will vote for him regardless. I love the You Tube clips of Mitt explaining during the Kennedy debates what a Champion of normalizing homosexuality “Senator Romney” would be.

If you won’t commit to the race you aren’t looking anything, but uninterested. I like Thompson, but have grown tired of his indecision(as my uncle used to say s**t or get off the pot). I have also heard him speak twice and have been terribly underwhelmed. I don’t think he has the fire in the belly to stand up to the Clinton machine. They are ruthless and you have to really be committed to the race to beat them. You are not going to win doing radio/tv/internet. I don’t know how Mitt will do. I am sure th DBM will pull out all the stops to push the wacko Mormonism thing (think the new movie September Morning opening this weekend) and will jump on everything he says as a sign of waffling(don’t seem to remember the media being to concerned about this issue with John Francois in 04). But I want a candidate that wants the jobs and I am not sure Fred is that guy at this point. We will see.

"But I find the timing of its release interesting."

It's been in production for years. If it was released August 08, you would have a leg here.

Romney lost me when he lashed out at the people who tried to save Terri Schiavo’s life...not that I had ever decided that he was my choice. Apart from a so-so record as governor (which included seriously mishandling the same-sex marriage issue), his claim to be the country’s choice for President rests on doing a good job with the Winter Olympics. Big deal.

Interesting. A Fredhead admitting that Romney is the man to beat.

Hugh Hewwitt in his Book “A Mormon in the White House” goes into detail about the DNC hit machine doing opposition research on Romney back in 2004 and earlier. He has been their chief target. (Something that would make any FReeper proud). The movie went into production in 2005. IMO, there may be a link but I don’t know how you would go about proving it.

At this point, Duncan Hunter is my first choice. I'll say this though...and I'll have to say that I'm getting TIRED of saying this...

But IF the GOP pushes one of those three turds who are the current top contenders, they will effectively HAND the 2008 Presidential race to Hillary Clinton.

People like us will ensure this because we do not fear and we will not vote for the lesser of two evils again, nor will we vote for leftists pretending to be conservatives waving little GOP flags.

Too many of us have lost too much confidence in the GOP, culminating with Shamnesty. We have determined to vote for the CORRECT man for the job whether anybody else thinks he's a winner or not. We don't fear Hillary winning the Presidential election in 2008, although we have a pretty good idea of the evils it will usher in.

You have a very good point about committing. Unless GOP-bots wake up and ditch the three Turds Who Won't Flush, we're in for some very bad times shortly after 2008.

That's a shame.

Too bad 25% of Republicans and 41% of Independents say there's no chance they'd vote for Mitt in a general election. That's what happens when nobody can trust a single thing you say.

It's not indecision, it's strategy.

That can't be true. He's a "devout Mormon", remember? Therefore, the video does not exist and Romney never said that.
