2 Va. counties OK immigration crackdown

By SARAH KARUSH, Associated Press Writer1 hour, 32 minutes ago

Ines Olivia Martinez wonders if her family will be denied medical care. Even her mentally disabled 13-year-old son has been anxiously pointing out police cars amid fears of a local crackdown on illegal immigrants. Resolutions to deny a potentially wide range of public services to illegal immigrants have thrust two northern Virginia counties into the nation's immigration debate.

The measures passed in July in Prince William and Loudoun counties join a flurry of recent efforts by local governments nationwide that believe the federal government has not done enough to stop illegal immigration.

But while other jurisdictions have focused largely on landlords and employers who knowingly rent to and hire illegal immigrants, the Virginia resolutions take a more direct approach. The National Association of Counties says the two counties are the first it knows of to pass measures aimed at denying services.

They probably will not be the last. Officials in several other Virginia counties have said they plan to follow suit, and the sponsor of the Prince William resolution says he has gotten e-mails from all over the country praising his efforts.

The new approach comes as some jurisdictions back off plans to crack down on landlords and employers following a federal court ruling last month that struck down a law in Hazleton, Pa. The much-copied law would have imposed fines on landlords who rent to illegal immigrants and denied business permits to those who employ them.

The northern Virginia measures are also likely to face legal challenges. The Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund has threatened to sue Prince William County. Other groups, including the American Civil Liberties Union, say they fear service restrictions will result in discrimination,

"Ines Olivia Martinez wonders if her family will be denied medical care."

Opening sentence of opening paragraph.

Do I sense just the TINIEST smallest bit of liberal tear jerking designed to cause undecideds on the issue of illegal aliens to back off, and designed to embarrassed the Borders/Security First crowd?? Nawwww..... /sarc

Sheesh, you cant MAKE this stuff up.

That line could only be outdone by one just right next to it, you know, with the little handicapped illegal alien boy peering out of the curtains at police cars?

Next they will have a paragraph about some skinhead Minuteman going over there and stomping on their toys in the front driveway, just after poisoning their puppy.

Editor: "Now Sarah, get out there on the double and come up with something that puts a "human face" on this whole illegal alien thing, OK? I want it to National Desk by tomorrow morning, got it?"

Liberal Dupe Writer: "Oh, yes, chief. Anything you say, I'm on it."

Of course they had the obligatory photograph of the "terrorized" undocumented family, including that fat anchor baby producer-in-training on the left:

Right. It is the same trash… rehashed.

mentally disabled 13-year-old son has been anxiously pointing out police cars amid fears

The Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund ... the American Civil Liberties Union, say they fear service restrictions will result in discrimination,

Critics say the resolutions are a racist reaction

the 41-year-old Mexico City native said of the measure. "We were all thinking there would be an amnesty"

The status of other services, such as health care for the uninsured, libraries and parks, (would be restricted)

"Everywhere people step, they have to show their documents

could diminish immigrants' trust in police and make them reluctant to cooperate as witnesses.

"Hispanic" (illegal alien) activists are planning a weeklong boycott

Not bad. It has almost all the BS boo-hoo catch-phrases. This is now a boilerplate article format that hack writers know will get their name on AP and other newswires. They all seem to want the "mentaly disabled" kid routine going first thing too.

YUCK.

I haven’t seen the latest illegal drunk driver kills (2,4,6 people) in crash blamed on the illegal being driven to drink by border security vigilantes. The immigrant was so depressed and distraught at the thought of being deported.

Give them time I suppose.

The only way this will end is a democrat in the White House. Then the media will have a blackout about the illegal alien problems just as with the homeless, business with China and a host of other things during the Clinton years.

From the article
Prince William County Police Chief Charlie T. Deane has warned that the crackdown could backfire.

The resolution in his county includes a provision instructing police to investigate the immigration status of anyone they detain if there is probable cause to believe the person is in the country illegally.

Deane said the measure could diminish immigrants' trust in police and make them reluctant to cooperate as witnesses. He also said denying recreational services could lead to a rise in the number of young people turning to crime.

Martinez said some of her friends and relatives have moved out of Prince William County because of the measure. Others are gearing up for a fight.

[emphasis added.]
Just as the longer and more you smoke, that harder it is (ceteris paribus) to quit, so also the longer you ignore some laws, the more discombobulation when you finally start to do your duty. Thus failing to provide enforcement for laws the people want sooner or later delivers an argument for ignoring the will of the people.

But even in these circumstance the emphasized sentence shows that laws and their enforcement can show some of the desired effect immediately. Let them all move to sanctuary cities, and then let's see how the warm and wonderful people of those cities feel about immigration.

It never ends. A man called in yesterday to a local talk show in Indianapolis. He was driving along and was hit by another vehicle. They stop, get out. The other car was occupied by a young latino woman. The car had Illinois plates. The man called the police to the scene.

It ended up the woman could not speak English, had no drivers license, no insurance, the car could have been stolen.

What happened? The cop let her get into her car and drive away. The US citizen had nothing but a smashed auto and will most likely have to file with his own insurance company subjecting himself to higher rates.

This stuff has to stop. Why should any US citizen abide by the laws anymore?

When I hear these people whining and worrying about losing what they think is their right to bilk US citizens, I just become ill.

Why isn't Carlos Slim, the richest man in the world taking care of these people?

He is! He contributes to Mexican politicians who then plead with Jorge Bush for a massive amnesty program!

Were they denied medical care in Mexico? Who's responsible for providing the medical care in Mexico?

How's the job situation in Mexico? Why aren't there good paying jobs available in Mexico? Who's responsible for the job situation in Mexico?

Haven't the "libs" and unions been complaining that we are "shipping" all of our jobs over seas and south of the border? If so, why does anybody feel the need to illegally cross the border to work in the US?

What's the penalty for breaking the law in Mexico? Why should Mexican citizens expect any enforcement differences from what they would get in Mexico?

Does the US Constitution apply in Mexico outside of the US Embassy?

Why should a Mexican who broke the law to get here and pays little or no taxes to support the system get any benefits from it? Why should an illegal alien be entitled to get in front of those who have gone through the process legally?

Just a few questions for the "bleeding hearts" out there...
