Prime Minister John Howard has become a grandfather.
Mr Howard's daughter Melanie yesterday gave birth to a boy, the Prime Minister's first grandchild.
Angus Benjamin Howard McDonald was born at 6pm (AEST) weighing 3.3kg in an undisclosed Sydney hospital, Mr Howard's office said.
"Mother and baby are both doing well," a spokesman said.
Melanie's husband Rowan McDonald said: "We are both very happy and very excited."
Melanie, 32, is Mr Howard's eldest child and only daughter.
