Chicago Area FReepers: Need your input
Move America Forward ^ | 08/25/2007 | MAF Staff

Posted on 08/26/2007 3:41:46 PM PDT by Impeach98

To our Chicago/Illinois area FReepers:

As you have probably already heard, the pro-troop organization Move America Forward is launching the patriotic "Fight for Victory Tour" patriotic caravan that will cross this nation from September 3rd - September 15th.

Our caravan of pro-troop supporters in cars, motorhomes, trucks and motorcycles will also hold 27 pro-troop rallies along the way - in cities across America.

One of those cities we will be holding a pro-troop rally is Chicago, Illinois at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, September 11th - yes the anniversary of 9/11.

THE PROBLEM: We're trying to find a good place to hold the event that will be convenient both for Chicago-based media and also for our supporters who don't live in the inner-city area.

Can you suggest locations we can hold our event that aren't more than 10-15 minutes from the city-core, but that are on the outskirts... in a safe area that can hold 50+ people?

Please post your thoughts/recommendations here. You can also email Mary Pearson of Move America Forward at: fightforvictorytour@yahoo.com

Lincoln Park - very end of parking lot on Belmont Harbor Drive. Check with the Park District to avoid problems.

No way I can make it, but don't invite any Paul supporters, and expect Moveon to make a counterattack as such...Paul supporters, that is. Anti-semitic as Buchannon and Tancredo, the blackies (anarchists and their second cousins the libertarians, along with their handlers in the Democrat party) are all of his support.

Don't let the anarchists & company get Move America Forward into trouble.

Daley (Not Dealy) Plaza where the Picasso Sculpture stands is considered the prime meeting spot for “Groups” in downtown Chicago. Otherwise Grant Park has a nice reputation for Chicago Hospitality. /Sarc

If this is just a caravan, you might be able to marshal it on Randolph St. east of Columbus Drive. (This is usually not a congested street). You could then head west to Michigan Avenue, make a right and ride north on Michigan past the Tribune building to Lake Shore Drive.

But, then again, because of all the stop lights, there is no way you could keep together.

There's an eternal flame in Daley Plaza, right in the heart of the city. I think you need a permit to gather there, but that's just a formality, you should have no problem getting one. The Alderman's office would be a great help, I think, if you called and explained what you're up to. It's easy access to all media; they have parking spaces reserved there and just across the street at City Hall. You may be able to park your vehicles there, but don't count on it. They pretty much don't let anyone stop curbside for more than a minute or two in the loop business district.

Parking is upwards of $25/vehicle in the business district, but you can get valet car parking in Marina City/House of Blues for about $10. Marina City is the 'corn cob' buildings at State Street on the north side of the river. It's an easy 5-10 minute walk to Daley Plaza from there

You can also park in the Grant Park underground garage; self-parking is about $17/vehicle

Neither of the places I've mentioned can handle large vans; SUVs and cars are all they can handle. If you have RVs or the like, and you're considering Daley Plaza, FReepmail me and I'll give you some ideas, or ask the alderman

The way to get the media out there is to notify they assignment desk, but also the planning desk. They're two separate things in most news shops. One is 'right now', the other is 'tomorrow and beyond'. Underscore the 9-11 connection because they'll be looking for that angle

An email to Chicago Tribune columnist John Kass would be a good idea. He's not the usual MSM lefty-shill

It wouldn't hurt to notify the national media either. Fox, CNN and the others have bureaus (or share with the locals)

Hope that helps

Grant Psrk, for sure - scene of countless "anti-war" demonstrations. Ideal.
Or how about Soldiers Field?

I’d second stylin’s suggestion. I’m not a Daley fan, but he respects the troops immensely, both the current ones and the old soldiers. He will probably be willing to help, and might even speak.

By the way...Even though I’m a Packer fan, I have two words for you: Soldier Field.

My suggestion would be All State arena in Rosemont. The arena is directly off I-90 next to O’Hare airport, and is easily accessible from Chicago and the suburbs.

AllState is good but also need permits & thats hard pressed w/ a new mayor who doesn't know his butt from a permit.

Lemme think on this

I do know the village of Niles is very patriotic to our soldiers maybe call the municipality? They have a wonderful water fountain they built and a monumemnt as a tribute to vets @ the corner of Touhy & Milwaukee. Many bridal parties take pics there. They even have Abe sitting on a bench. You can talk to someone, tell them what your planning & I'm sure they would be honored to work with you.

Try Federal Plaza downtown. Maximum media exposure. However, there is a risk of being surrounded by the moonbats.

Immigration advocates protest employer rule

About 25 immigrant advocates rallied outside the Metcalf Federal Building in the Loop on Tuesday to protest a pending federal rule that cracks down on illegal hiring.

Next month, thousands of so-called “No Match” letters are expected to be sent to employers under a new Department of Homeland Security policy that seeks to weed out illegal immigrants who use fake Social Security numbers or stolen IDs.

The rule requires employers to clear up discrepancies in a worker’s identification within three months or face possible fines of as much as $11,000 for each illegal hiring.

Agree - Daley Plaza is the place. Also agree with getting John Kass on board - he’s a stand-up guy.

There's an eternal flame in Daley Plaza...

...and as long as that flame is burning Chicago is not ready for reform.
