Report: National strategy needed to fight fat

(CNN) -- Americans are already among the fattest people in the world and they just keep packing on the pounds. A new report finds that obesity rates have swelled during the last year in 31 states with not one state reporting that its obesity rate shrank. And, for the first time, more than 30 percent of residents in one state -- Mississippi -- are classified as obese.

Two-thirds of U.S. adults are obese or overweight, according to the Trust for America's Health.

Nationwide, two-thirds of U.S. adults are obese or overweight, according to the fourth annual report from the Trust for America's Health, titled "F as in Fat: How Obesity Policies are Failing in America." The report's co-author says the government needs to treat this trend as an epidemic that threatens the health of Americans and put in place a national plan in place to combat obesity.

"The key recommendation in the report is we need a national strategy," said report co-author Jeffrey Levi.

He noted that the federal government has created a comprehensive plan to be implemented in the event of an outbreak of pandemic flu.

"We need something like that in obesity that says this is what every agency of the federal government is doing. [It's] what we can do to directly affect this problem and motivate individual communities and businesses to play their role as well," Levi said.

I was just wondering today if maybe our obesity rate is going up because our population is aging and as we age we tend to gain weight. Thoughts?

i think people are stressed out and don’t travel much and are staying home and chumping down on food

most people cant afford Prozac its cheaper to get a burger or two

As a life long girl watcher I am having to consider finding another hobby. Getting pretty tired of looking at fat women of all ages.

But not as tired as I am of the government taking it upon itself to “butt” into everyone’s life. Pun intended. None of their damn business.

Actually just eat less. Exercise will help but if you don’t want to be fat/obese eat less, maybe lot’s less.

True. Here's a gem which works well for folks whose exercise is limited:

H 2O ~ drink water, only, all day long
U nderstand the difference between 'hunger' and 'appetite'
N ever eat after 7 pm
G et an eating schedule and STICK to it
R ealize your stomach is only as big as your fist
Y ield to Inspiration, not food temptation.

3 small meals a day with no snacking will melt that fat so fast, with or without exercise.
Fasting from 6 pm - 6 am is the key.
Water only ~ no caffeine or alcohol.
Eat for hunger only ~ not for entertainment, emotion or comfort.
On a scale of O (empty) to 10 (Thanksgiving dinner full), eat only to a comfortable 5 or less.

Learning to enjoy genuine HUNGER makes mealtime so satisfying.
Food tastes better and less is required.
Use small plates ~ makes less look more.

This plan is radical, with radical results.
For serious fat melters only! No food restrictions ~ works with any individual plan.
