A Border Patrol chief yesterday apologized for saying the agency's mission is stopping terrorists, not illegal aliens or drug smugglers, a stance that outraged congressional lawmakers.
"It's painfully obvious to me that I could have done a better job of articulating my talking points," said sector Chief Carlos X. Carrillo, who made the controversial comments last week at a town hall meeting in Laredo, Texas.
"As long as the resources are made available to the people who can make it happen, we will certainly do everything we can to ensure that a zero tolerance policy is brought forward. But to initiate a program like this, without the funding, would not be wise."
Rep. John Culberson, Texas Republican, was angered by Chief Carrillo's comments and contacted him yesterday for clarification. Mr. Culberson, a member of the House Appropriations homeland security subcommittee, said the Laredo chief apologized and promised to continue strict apprehension policies along the border.
"Chief Carrillo promised me that he will do his very best to implement Del Rio's zero tolerance policy," Mr. Culberson said, referring to the Del Rio sector's strong policies to incarcerate all illegal aliens caught in high traffic areas. "I promised the chief that we are totally committed to finding the funds that he needs to make that happen."
Chief Carrillo said that Laredo needs funding to hire more prosecutors and U.S. marshals, and more jail-bed space before his agency can adopt the strict zero-tolerance policy.

How can he tell the difference between an illegal and a terrorist?
Thats easy. The terrorist are wearing turbins, wielding swords, chanting “ALlah is the greatest” silly.
He needs to be "Ex-Chief Carlos Carrillo".
“It was a two-hour town hall meeting, Chief Carrillo said. One of the issues we discussed was illegal immigration. I said the Border Patrol cannot address the causes of illegal immigration. Were not supposed to address it. Our focus is enforcement, our focus is enforcement at the border.”
Carillo is a L I A R !!
"As long as the resources are made available to the people who can make it happen, we will certainly do everything we can to ensure that a zero tolerance policy is brought forward. But to initiate a program like this, without the funding, would not be wise."
This A--hole needs his walking papers. In the first statement he says he should have done a better job of saying he wasn't going to do his job, and in the second statement he says, "to start a zero tolerance would not be wise". Same thing as say screw you congressman. I'll do as I please!
Anyone else want to vote this the understatement of the year? Sadly, I think he's lying and stated his beliefs correctly yesterday. And we wonder why we have an illegal alien problem.
Why apologize? He said exactly what he meant to say. Now fire his butt!
Just fire him.
“the agency’s mission is stopping terrorists, not illegal aliens or drug smugglers”
Last I heard the drug smuggler the two BP shot in the a$$ was suing the US government `cause Mr. Sutton forgot to have him sign a Release as a condition of his plea bargain.
Mebbe Chief Carillo can sue us as well for defamation: libel and slander per se; that is, for damaging him in his employment for questioning why a Border Patrol chief doesn’t feel obligated to use his law enforcement assets to enforce our southwestern border.
Now he speaks of zero tolerance, another whining escape route.
Between "zero tolerance", and total inactivity, there is a huge area of compromise.
Find someone who understands this, dammit!
“It’s painfully obvious to me that I could have done a better job of articulating my talking points,” said sector Chief Carlos X. Carrillo, who made the controversial comments last week at a town hall meeting in Laredo, Texas.”
He did a great job of revealing who and what he is really all about.. Even in his so call apology...
Another Sack

It reflects poorly on the President that this bozo hasn’t already been fired.

It shouldn't, but the AG is Hispanic, the head border patrol guy is Hispanic, the President is called El Presidente by many and, guess what, the border is like a sieve. BTW, Congress and the Supreme Court cannot enforce the laws, only the Executive Branch can. That would be the President and the people who work for him. Hispanic or not, nobody is doing anything.
"As long as the resources are made available to the people who can make it happen, we will certainly do everything we can to ensure that a zero tolerance policy is brought forward.
Now Carlos is caught in a lie, last Thursday it wasn't his or the Border Patrol's job or mission, today he tells us that that the problem is a lack of funding.

Border Patrol agents don't have the responsibility of apprehending illegal immigrants, Carlos X. Carrillo, chief patrol agent for the Laredo sector, said at a town hall meeting Wednesday."The Border Patrol is not equipped to stop illegal immigrants," Carrillo said, noting that illegal narcotics are also not on the agents priority list.
"The Border Patrol mission is not to do any of those things," he emphasized.
Hey, horge arbustos new AG. The enemy within.
Yesterday’s comments were the truth. Today’s were merely what his handlers told him to say.
What did he say?
The Laredo Times did not quote him as saying anything other than they did not have the equipment to do their job.

From my post 36, The Laredo Times quoted Carlos:
