What about those who lived in neighborhoods that were overtaken by illegals? What about THEIR property values?

Property values rose all during the years illegals were moving in. Now they're dropping, not only in hispanic areas, but everywhere.

Yeah, the price of lettuce might go up fifty cents a head.

Yeah. And I might lose $200k on the value of my real estate (that is *not* located in Hispanic areas).

Meanwhile, my taxes are less and less going towards medical care for illegals.

Tell me what government entity reduced your taxes?

And as real estate prices go down, people lose jobs, the general economic health of the entire country will go down, reducing the tax receipts government brings in.

Just like Rush is continually reminding us that "reducing the tax rates results in more money to government", when you trash the economy by chasing millions of people out, abandoning their jobs, mortgages and property, the tax receipts will go down. Yeah, less tax money will be spent on illegals, but there will be less tax money in the first place in the trashed economy we're going to have.

Bush attempted a fix to the problem that wouldn't have been disruptive. But the unsophisticated yahoos wouldn't stand for it, and those very yahoos are going to pay through the nose for it, even if they don't buy lettuce. The sad thing is they will never accept that their stubborn attitude about illegals is what cost them their retirement savings.

Property values rose all during the years illegals were moving in.

They rose in areas that had no illegal immigration. And are dropping now as well. So something else is in play here.

Yeah. And I might lose $200k on the value of my real estate (that is *not* located in Hispanic areas).

Ah, so the sub-prime bubble has nothing to do with this.

Tell me what government entity reduced your taxes?

It's about not having to continue to RAISE taxes to pay for the onslaught of illegals needed government bennies.

They rose in areas that had no illegal immigration.

Yeah. It's called "increased demand". Just because no illegals moved into my neighborhood doesn't mean that non-illegals, fleeing areas where they are moving into, don't buy in my neighborhood. Real estate is regional in nature, but illegals have been moving all over the US, not just the border states.

Ah, so the sub-prime bubble has nothing to do with this.

And the people leaving the state, abandoning houses don't have anything do to with it? The "sub-prime bubble" is something less than 1% of existing mortgages. Illegals now make up somewhere around than 5% of the population. Guess which one could have a greater effect, if all of them default? Oh, and they leave their jobs too and stop paying income and sales taxes.

It's about not having to continue to RAISE taxes to pay for the onslaught of illegals needed government bennies.

And instead, they'll raise your taxes because the government will have less tax receipts in a downward economy, sparked by a population loss. Given the choice of firing nurses that no longer treat illegals and raising your taxes, I'm betting they'll raise your taxes anyway.

There are *always* unintended consequences. If we have a huge population loss because of the SSN enforcement Bush began at the behest of conservatives, there will be a huge economic hit on the US, much larger than any "sub-prime" mortgage problem. In fact, the two problems will multiply each other, happening as they are at the same time.
