A new Arizona state law to require employers to verify the immigration status of employees is being blamed – and credited – for chasing illegal aliens out of the state.
It's the second such development in just the last week: WND reported earlier how a new Oklahoma law requiring the deportation of arrested illegal aliens was prompting an exodus from that state.
The developments are the result of state actions already launched when a brokered plan in the U.S. Senate to create a path to legal residency for the millions of illegal aliens in the country collapsed.
The new report comes from the Arizona Republic, which said the state's strong economy has been a magnet for illegal aliens for years, but the law is looming on Jan. 1.
"I would say we are losing at least 100 people a day," Elias Bermudez, founder of Immigrants Without Borders and host of a daily talk-radio program aimed at undocumented immigrants, told the newspaper.

The report said it's impossible to count exactly how many illegal aliens have fled because of the new law, but interviews with immigrant advocates, community workers and real-estate agents confirm the number is significant.
"Some are moving to other states, where they think they will have an easier time getting jobs," the report said. "Others are returning to Mexico, selling their effects and putting their houses on the market."
The report said the number is expected to mushroom as the deadline approaches.
"This is exactly what it is supposed to do. (Illegal aliens) have no business being here, none," said state Rep. Russell Pearce, R-Mesa, an architect of the law to sanction employers. "Shut off the lights, and the crowd will go home. I hope they will all self-deport."

Keep in mind that these new efforts to deal with illegals on the State level are coming from the same people who only months ago were telling us that they could not do anything about illegal aliens because immigration is a federal issue.
After the election, they will no doubt return to their old ways.

2) This is misleading. Arizona is going after employers who violate laws by hiring non-citizens. This has nothing to do with a fence (another idea I favor) and is way more effective.
Doing jobs Jorge Bush won’t do.
A State enforcing the law? Oh, the humanity!

That must be why I see new houses advertised in Phoenix for prices I saw 10 years ago. I hear that entire blocks of houses are for sale in heavily Hispanic neighborhoods.
The economic repercussions for chasing millions of people out of the country have only just begun. We may not have to listen to "press 2 for espanol" on the answering machine, but a lot of people who depended on the value of their real estate for a decent retirement may never see it.
There are *always* unintended consequences to policies, and this one will be far more expensive to far more people than many imagine.

That's where I'd go for solid information.
What about those who lived in neighborhoods that were overtaken by illegals? What about THEIR property values? You never seemed too concerned about that.
There are *always* unintended consequences to policies, and this one will be far more expensive to far more people than many imagine.
Yeah, the price of lettuce might go up fifty cents a head. Meanwhile, my taxes are less and less going towards medical care for illegals. School taxes for illegals. Welfare for illegals. Incarcerating illegals. And all the other various social costs of illegals.
Works for me.
Kyl, McCain and Gov Napolitano should explain to taxpayers the public financing of the Arizona-Mexico Commission, and the Border Infrastructure Project implemented in collaboration with federal, state and local government agencies........that's OUR tax dollars.
