The Minnesota Vikings on Wednesday canceled a $45 million deal to buy Star Tribune property near the Metrodome, a move that could complicate the team's effort to build a new stadium at the site.
Team officials blamed the deal's collapse on turmoil in the nation's credit markets, which have made it difficult for even blue-chip companies to obtain loans. At the same time, the Vikings said they remain committed to building a stadium on the Metrodome site and are continuing negotiations for other nearby parcels.
Lester Bagley, the Vikings' vice president of public affairs and stadium development, said there is no connection between Wednesday news and the team's position on remaining in Minnesota.

(WCCO) Minneapolis Outdoor baseball is officially on its way to the Twin Cities with the Minnesota Twins breaking ground at their new ballpark in Minneapolis.
Local leaders, former and current players, Major League Baseball officials and fans were on hand Thursday to dig into the dirt at the new ballpark site. The original groundbreaking ceremony was scheduled for Aug. 2 but was postponed because of the Interstate 35W bridge collapse.
Work on the 40,000-seat ballpark has already started. The process of clearing the site began May 15 and the actual construction of the new ballpark will begin soon. The new outdoor ballpark is scheduled to be done in time for opening day in 2010. In May 2006, Gov. Tim Pawlenty signed the ballpark legislation into law during a pre-game ceremony at the Metrodome.
The legislation authorizes shared financing of the ballpark with Hennepin County paying $350 million and the Twins organization contributing $130 million.

Heck, sounds like the Vikings are better at real estate than football.
Maybe they are just putting off the deal and let the Star Tribune
suffer more of the MSM newspaper decline...
and pick it up cheaper when the Star Tribune is desperate to sell
at a much lower price.
I know it won't matter here and I doubt my vote would matter in Texas for very different reasons. So, maybe Florida ..... or Ohio.... or Colorado....or Virginia. Could you imagine a President Wildebeest?
Not being from Minnesota, I’d prefer the Vikings played outdoors rather than the Twins. Snow games during football season are fun to watch. During baseball season, they just cancel the game.
