In Ohio, the Columbus Public School system, (CPS), has a very bad reputation. One has only to speak the name of the organization, and chills roll down parents' backs.
But, unlike what many at Freerepublic would think, the overwhelmingly Democratic-controlled city council has taken bold measures to address the problem.
Study groups were formed, months were invested, dollars were spent.
In a bold move sure to create ripples nationwide- the group moved to correct the problem of the odious reputation associated with CPS.
They have today announced that they have changed their name... to Columbus City Schools.
What tremors this creates in the industry will simply have to be dealt with.
Oh... and they also created a logo.
Well, heck, they had to... after all- their graduates can't read well, and it will serve as a mnemonic, so that they can recognize the source of their abilities in life.
Oy, my parents live in Florida, and Mom’s in the Republican Club in her county. We don’t talk about politics much, because too much ire is bad for her health. She can’t stand Jeb Bush, though.
I had some disagreements with Jeb, but he was much better than Charlie Crist, who is basically a male version of Olympia Snow.

The libraries are also controlled by the leftists who are gradually purging serious works from the shelves. Inquire how many books the Union County Library has by Christopher Dawson, Eric Vogelin or F.A. Hayek.

Union (and Charlotte-Mecklenburg) get a good selection of recent, popular conservative books. I just spent a week of late nights on Michael Burleigh’s “Sacred Causes,” from Mecklenburg.
Do you have Caesar or Tacitus? Anoreth has a Rome Thing going on. (She also has magenta hair and a Bruce Lee t-shirt. I have to allow these thing to prove I’m not my Mom.)
The problem with the recent, popular conservative books is that they tend to say roughly the same thing. At some point there is nothing further to be gained by reading them.
However, some of the unpopular current conservative books are excellent. Try to find something by Roger Scruton if you can.
I have the Gallic War, but no Tacitus unless it’s part of a combined Harvard Classics volume. My collection is much better in Greek/Hellenic and Medieval works. Our new house is only about 3.5 hours from you, so you’ll probably need to take the van.

If you haven’t already, I would recommend the Claremont Review of Books. It’s a quarterly publication from the Claremont Institute; it’s not expensive and the articles are very good.
Congrats to your daughter. The adversity she learned to deal with should serve her well. Even though I flew Navy, I still wish her all the best.
Agreed. Also quite good, is The University Bookman, originally founded by Russell Kirk and currently published by ISI. Additionally, The National Review, The New Criterion, Commentary, First Things and other serious conservative journals nearly always contain a few worthwhile reviews.
I used to get “The University Bookman” and “The Underground Grammarian,” back in the day.
