Which is the more reason I go along with your idea of territorial status.
This part of Virginia and Maryland are already ignored by DC, Richmond and Annapolis. Give either state another 250,000 Dem votes and you might as well strip us of our voting rights. Not that we have much voice as it is now.

Huckabee backs D.C. voting rights bill Too bad. I was starting to give him a look. If this is indeed Huck's position, he's permanently off my list. Sorry, Huck, but you are backing a measure that is both unconstitutional and a partisan gift to the DemonRats.
The Utah extra seat will only be there through 2010, then it will probably be reapportioned elsewhere. The D.C. seat will be there permanently, and will vote DemonRat every election.

I have never once not for a minute been fooled by yet another Arkansas governor from Hope that is glib, can fake sincerity, and has an endless series of oneliners. Anybody who is supporting Huckabee just hasn’t been paying attention — for about 15 years.

To me, the argument of taxation without representation sounds as if it has merit. I am opposed to extremes, such as admitting DC as a 51st state, but I'm not closed off to the idea. pnh102 suggested federal tax exemptions, which sound reasonable. freekitty mentioned that DC is already a concentrated center of political power. (I agree that the rule of power is located in DC, but there are residents who work in private industries and so forth who deserve representation.)The Constitution specifies that DC shall "not exceed" 10 miles square. It doesn't have to be 10 miles square.
DC is the seat of government. It should have no "private industries" within its bounds. To the extent that there are, such land should be ceded back to the states which originally ceded it in the first place as they are not part of the "seat of government."
The federal government was fittingly ceded an area of fetid swamplands by Virginia and Maryland, a place where no right-minded person would spend any more time than absolutely necessary. It's no coincidence that the massive expansion of federal power came not long after the invention of electrical air conditioning in 1902.

Maybe Washingtonians ought to demonstrate some responsibility before they start whining about “rights.”

Anybody who is supporting Huckabee just hasnt been paying attention for about 15 years.Judging by the fact that he only has 9 supporters nationwide and has raised only $3.45 I would say that people are in fact paying attention.

LOL. Well, if they are on the dole; they are still getting some kind of federal help.

It’s about too much power in one place. They should have placed agencies if they were going to have them at allI(and I don’t believe all of them are needed)placed around the country; thereby eliminating so much concentrated power.
That’s one of the main reasons people in Washington DC should not have a vote.

Sounds like Mike is trying to stake out the Marion Barry constituency.

This fricking clown needs to go back to Arkansas and teach a Sunday school class or something. He admires Bill and Hillary Clinton, is pro-open borders and pro-big government nanny-state. He is the epitome of what's wrong with the GOP. STOP BEING OUR DADDIES FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!!
To: mvpel
I like the idea of DC ceding all residential and commercial property in the district to the neighboring states, and just shut down the city government entirely. Personally, D.C. should just be a federal capital. There should be no city government whatsoever or residents living there. It should be a federal "campus", so to speak.

Aren’t they supposed to wait until they have fooled us into nominating them before going over to the dark side?

Huck is fast racing to Ron Pauls level. Give me a break. There's no comparison between Paul and Huckabee. Paul supports border security and wants the government out of your life. Huckabee is a pro-open borders shill who wants to run your life.
If Huckabee wins the GOP nomination or is a VP choice Hillary will win in a cakewalk.
