GOP Candidate Duncan Hunter to Lead Pro-Troop Rally in Carson City
KRNV ^ | Aug 31, 2007 | KRNV

Posted on 08/31/2007 8:56:16 PM PDT by mdittmar

Congressman Duncan Hunter, who serves on the House Armed Services Committee and is a Republican candidate for president, will be coming to Carson City, Nevada to speak at the "Fight for Victory Tour" pro-troop rally.

The event takes place on Monday, September 3rd, 2007 at 9:00 AM at Mills Park in Carson City.

The rally kicks off a historic pro-troop caravan that will travel 4,384 miles across the country.  Supporters of Operation Iraqi Freedom will conduct a nationwide caravan along with more than 2-dozen rallies across America calling for continued support of U.S. troops based in Iraq in the days leading up to General David Petraeus' September 15th report to Congress.

The giant pro-troop push is part of an effort by the nation's largest grassroots, pro-troop organization, Move America Forward (website: www.MoveAmericaForward.org) which will lead thousands of supporters in a cross-country effort called the "FIGHT FOR VICTORY TOUR."

We are also asking the public to bring cards & letters that express appreciation and well-wishes for our troops who were injured in the war effort.  We will be collecting these at the rally and bringing them to our wounded warriors at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

It seems like Hunter, and most other candidates, is skipping the Midwest this election cycle. Ohio almost turned Kerry and did go Blue in 2006.

This will be great to remind the troops that some of us are still still behind them, appreciate their service and support their mission. I would feel much better if Hunter was leading the effort as CiC, but we have what we have and there is a job to be done.

Duncan Hunter built up the defense that Bill Clinton tore down, and got equipment and weapons to protect our troops, and our country, when he Chaired the House Armed Services Committee (when the Republicans had the majority), and Hunter went to Iraq FIVE times, and he did some tough fighting duty in ‘Nam and won a medal, and Hunter has a son who did two tours in Iraq, including Fallujah, and is now doing a 3rd tour in Afghanistan, so Duncan Hunter has a lot a stake personally, as well.

” - This will be great to remind the troops that some of us are still still behind them, appreciate their service and support their mission. - “

With the exception of the Dems (and some RINO’s) and the media, there is a majority of Americans who do support the troops and want us to win in Irag.

We just have to keep speaking out and being heard.

Send care packages, http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1562436/posts call your Congressman, write your local newspaper or call your localTV station.

Don’t allow the anti-war crowd to march in the streets unchallenged! http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/keyword?k=gatheringofeagles

But we have to be willing to get out there and be heard!

Oddly I’ve never heard of a Democrat “candidate for president” involved in a “Pro-Troop Rally”. They like saying that they support the troops and yet that is as far as they’ll go with that.

Well, actually, it’s not so odd but something that I’ve noticed.

FROM APRIL:

Hunter’s son headed back to Iraq

By: MARK WALKER - Staff Writer

NORTH COUNTY —— When Marine Corps Capt. Duncan Duane Hunter reports for duty in Iraq sometime next month, he probably will be the only announced congressional candidate serving in harm’s way.

Hunter, the son of U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter, was one of about 250 Californians in the Marine Corps’ Individual Ready Reserve program who recently got letters informing them they were being reactivated.

“It’s better to have them shooting at me there than shooting at people here,” Hunter said Monday.

Hunter, 30, announced a couple of weeks ago that he is running for the 52nd Congressional District seat his father has held since 1981. The younger Hunter has already established a campaign committee with the Federal Election Commission.

When his father announced he would seek the 2008 GOP presidential nomination, the elder Hunter said this would be his final term representing the heavily Republican congressional district that includes Poway and Ramona.

For the younger Hunter, whose home base is Camp Pendleton, it will be his third assignment in Iraq. His first came in mid-2003 shortly after the U.S. invasion, and he spent seven months in Iraq in 2004, during which time he saw action in the fight for the city of Fallujah, one of the major battles of the war.

He is one of 1,800 reservists called up, with about 1,200 expected to be sent to Iraq early next year. In his case, Hunter said he asked and the Marine Corps has granted his request to expedite his deployment.

“The Marine Corps certainly has needs to be filled now, and I would rather go now and get it done sooner than later,” he said.

Like his father, the ranking Republican and former chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, Hunter supports Bush administration policies on Iraq.

“I think what we are doing in Iraq is the right thing,” he said during a telephone interview. “We are doing what our military has trained us to do, and in fighting over there we present hardened military targets to the enemy. It beats IEDs going off over here.”

In recent months, the father of three children ranging in age from 7 months to 6 years old has been serving as an advance man and driver for his father’s presidential effort. On Monday, he was with his dad in San Diego reviewing television advertisements before the elder Hunter headed off to Alabama for campaign appearances.

The elder Hunter, who in stump appearances hasn’t been shy about mentioning his son’s past service in Iraq, said he worries like any other parent would.

“He’s been a great asset on the campaign, but when his country called on him, he was ready to saddle up and go,” his father said. “He’s already served his country for four years and now he will serve a little more.

“As a parent, you’re always concerned about your family and in this my case my son who is headed back into battle. He’s a good man and I’m proud of him, and I know he will do a good job.”

Duncan Duane Hunter said he decided to run for Congress because he holds many of the same beliefs as his dad and wants to continue that kind of representation. While several Iraq war veterans are now serving in Congress, most are Democrats who oppose the continued U.S. presence.

“I represent conservative values and can communicate that what we are doing in the war on terror is the right thing,” he said. “I also think I can communicate that message more effectively than the administration has been doing.”

His job in Iraq will prevent Hunter from doing much campaigning during his deployment. That work will be assumed by his wife, Margaret, he said.

Hunter’s built-in name recognition and the connections of his father make him the odds-on favorite in a congressional district with about 151,000 registered Republicans compared with about 100,000 registered Democrats. The 2008 primary for congressional seats takes place in June.

While the registration numbers alone make the district a longshot for Democrats, Jess Durfee, chairman of the San Diego County Democratic Party, said it’s far too early to assume the younger Hunter will replace his father.

“We are quite confident we will have a good candidate, and I don’t think the voters of the 52nd District think it is to be treated like some kind of monarchy with representation passed down from one generation of a family to the next.”

Durfee also said that many Democrats won seats they were never expected to take last November, a trend that he said could continue through the 2008 election cycle.

"Duncan Hunter built up the defense that Bill Clinton tore down"

Don't leave out Gingrich in the equation. The hero and primadonna of the 'fiscally conservative at any cost' crowd was complicit with Clinton in the dismantling of our military.

Newt Gingrich may also get into the ‘08 Presidential race if Fred Thompson falters. It all depends upon Fred’s performance after he’s an official Presidential candidate.

I think Duncan is great...hopefully he will do well in the coming debates. I thought he was good in the last one except he needs to talk more about smaller government and local government being the best, as per the 10th ammendment...along with smaller taxation. The fact that he is backing the fairtax is great. I hope he doesn’t call the two border agents in jail great again though. That makes him sound like a fringe candidate. I have heard quite a few facts about the case as the jury heard them and it’s obvious that they messed up pretty badly and then tried to cover it up. I don’t understand why Duncan would not at least put some disclaimer on the statement like, they should have been disiplined within the agency rather than being tried...instead of portraying them as totally innocents.

The local RNCs seem to set the campaign schedules.

Ducan is an outstanding person even having been a politician for a long time.

He has Character!... and I will stand by him until I hear any different.

The fact that he has not catched fire -yet- with the Republicans, it just shows the party has drifted already wey too much to the left and we must keep trying to change this if at all possible, if not we'll see.

Let’s all hope that Hunter can be counted on too-

We all need to get So much MORE INFO on ALL of them NOW too!

We don’t need any “ New Tone “ types sneaking into office behind our backs again!

And remember-HOW those who do NOT make “ the Cut “ for the Nomination ACT AFTERWARDS will also tell us who they really are!

I do NOT want to see or hear ANYTHING bad or negative when it comes time for Conservatives to go for the Nomination!!
We should NOT end up being like the Dems; Ripping eachother apart terribly-and AFTERWARDS; THEN trying to “forget” that One Republican said something evil against another!”

Or AFTERWARDS; THEN trying to get the PUBLIC to “forget” that One Republican said something evil against another!”-cause you all know that the DEMS will use anything bad one Rep says against eachother!

Why give THEM ammunition to use against us!

P.S.

And don’t forget this debate on values, and I even started a thread about it, because it is so important:
