Troopathon VIII is today 6-25 1pm-7pm Pacific 4pm-10pm Eastern. It's an annual event to support the troops by sending them packages with essential and desired items of use to them while deployed in the Mideast. This year to save money the Troopathon will be broadcasting from the offices of Move America Forward in Sacramento, California. There are over 10,000 troops serving in Afghanistan (6,000+) and Iraq, 3,100-3500, plus a handful elsewhere in the middle east. This week, ProPublica released a report on the financial (and moral) corruption of a Tea Party group operating under the name Move America Forward, which was founded by one Sal Russo. Russo also helped start the Our Country Deserves Better PAC, aka the Tea Party Express. Move America Forward has run fake drives to give care packages to troops, stolen images of other charitable campaigns and passed them off as its own, and trumpeted a nonexistent partnership with Walter Reed Hospital — all while funneling very real millions to itself. In February 2013, Move America Forward announced an ambitious fundraising goal. The charity, launched in part by one of the most prominent figures in the Tea Party movement, had adopted the 800 Marines in a battalion fighting in Afghanistan and wanted to send them all care packages. ......................................................... Yet an examination of its fundraising appeals, tax records and other documents shows that Move America Forward has repeatedly misled donors and inflated its charitable accomplishments, while funneling millions of dollars in revenue to the men behind the group and their political consulting firms.

HELP!! SOMEONE STOLE FROM THE TROOPS! Friends, we have some tough news to break. As horrible as it sounds, there are people out there who are willing to steal from the troops. Last night, just before a big shipment was planned to go out, some criminal broke the lock to the location where we were storing about 400 care packages. The thieves didn't take them all, but they stole about $5,000 worth of packages that were meant for the troops in Afghanistan.
