What if They Had a Surrender and Nobody Showed Up?

Well, you'd get the Senate Majority leader trolling for a few RINO votes in order to pass something which he can at least try to sell as an anti-war measure:

Saying the coming weeks will be "one of the last opportunities" to alter the course of the war, Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) said he is now willing to compromise with Republicans to find ways to limit troop deployments in Iraq.

Reid acknowledged that his previous firm demand for a spring withdrawal deadline had become an obstacle for a small but growing number of Republicans who have said they want to end the war but have been unwilling to set a timeline.

"I don't think we have to think that our way is the only way," Reid said of specific dates during an interview in his office here. "I'm not saying, 'Republicans, do what we want to do.' Just give me something that you think you would like to do, that accomplishes some or all of what I want to do."

Everyone might want to keep in mind that Reid, a few short months ago, proclaimed the campaign in Iraq as lost - now, if he really believed that, he would still be fighting tooth and nail for a quick withdrawal. On the other hand, if it was a mere political stunt designed to placate the leftwing base, then it is only natural to see Reid now trying for a political fig leaf.

There's a small chance that Reid will get some toothless withdrawal resolution through the Senate - more than likely though, there aren't enough RINOs left to get Reid to 60 votes for cloture (one of the advantages for the GOP in 2006 was that, for instance, Lincoln Chaffee is no longer in the GOP caucus to screw things up for us) - not enough RINOs, and a few red-State Democrats up for re-election next year and who are thus unable to go along with surrender in Iraq. However it comes out, it will be a worthless gesture - It'll be ignored by everyone who doesn't actually greet it with bitter, contemptuous laughter.

I don't think one will make it through the Senate this month. The political climate has changed dramatically since the Democrats' Slumber Party stunt back in July. A majority of Americans now believe the war can be won. Today the Democrats are running into a major headwind. They ain't seen nothin' yet.

There are like 4 or 5 RINOs who might agree with him. He tried this in the all-night debate and it didn't work. He's just desparate to surrender isn't he? How 'bout rooting for our side for a change, Dingy?

Guess someone better teach this moron to count votes. He cannot get enough Republicans to sign on to override the President’s veto

I'd like to see Dingy Harry run up that white flag... and SURRENDER!

Reid is struggling to find “one of the last opportunities” to lose!
