Terri Schiavo's Family Continues Effort to Block Jack Kevorkian UF Speech
Life News ^ | 9/3/07 | Steven Ertelt

Gainesville, FL (LifeNews.com) -- The family of Terri Schiavo is continuing its efforts to block a speech by Jack Kevorkian scheduled for the middle of next month. The speech would be the first for the former assisted suicide crusader following his release from prison for killing a disabled man and showing the death on national television.

Kevorkian would speak to students at the University of Florida on October 11 and receive $50,000 for the talk, as long as his parole officers approve the trip.

The family of Terri Schiavo has been leading an effort to stop the speech by gathering petitions from concerned citizens so Kevorkian doesn't get a platform in their home state.

They don't want the former pathologist telling students that people with disabilities should be killed, like their sister, rather than receiving appropriate medical treatment or rehabilitative care.

Bobby Schindler, Terri's brother, told LifeNews.com, "We have collected thousands of petitions (and they are still coming in) to deliver to the Office of the President of the University of Florida."

"We're demanding the University rescind its offer to pay $50,000 for Kevorkian to address the students," he added.

"Despite the ongoing message of death spreading through our society and those, like Jack Kevorkian, who attempt to justify killing the most vulnerable among us, we are committed to fight against this death-obsessed culture and spread Terri's legacy of life, hope and love," Schindler explained.

He said there is still time for pro-life people and others worried about Kevorkian's pro-assisted suicide message to sign a petition asking the University of Florida to cancel the speech.

The petition can be found at the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation web site.

Socialist Europe unmasks itself once again as evil attacking good.

BOŻE COŚ POLSKĘ

Thread by wagglebee.

WARSAW, September 26, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In June of this year, the Polish government appealed the ruling of a European Human Rights Court that ordered the largely pro-life nation to pay restitution to a woman who was not permitted to obtain an abortion under strict Polish abortion law. According to the Irish Times, the court yesterday rejected Poland's appeal and confirmed the previous ruling essentially granting a higher acknowledgement to European Union (EU) standards over the sovereignty of individual nations and their laws.

As previously reported by LifeSiteNews.com, the woman in question, Alicja Tysiac, claims that in 2000 she found out that she was pregnant with her third child. At that time, according to her complaint, she was warned by numerous doctors that her pregnancy and delivery of another child could result in the deterioration of her myopic eye condition.

Haleigh Poutre update...

It looks like the attention given to Haleigh's plight by The Republican, other media and concerned people and us has paid off in a better system. Her own plight is not resolved yet but similar cases are now more unlikely thanks to the spotlight shone on her.

.................................

Haleigh Poutre of Westfield was 11 years old when she was admitted to a Springfield hospital in a comatose state after police said she suffered severe brain injuries as a result of a beating by her adoptive mother and stepfather.

How could the state Department of Social Services, which had been supervising Haleigh's adoptive mother, have failed Haleigh so terribly?

Haleigh is now 13 years old and, sadly, the same question is being asked.

It is a miracle that she is alive. The DSS sought to end Haleigh's life support eight days after she was admitted to the hospital and just six days after obtaining temporary custody of her.

On Jan. 17, 2006, the Supreme Judicial Court gave the agency permission to remove her from life support. The day after the ruling, Haleigh was breathing on her own and responding to commands. She now resides in a Boston rehabilitation hospital.

A state commission, appointed by former Gov. W. Mitt Romney, found that the Western Massachusetts DSS offices receive about 1,000 reports of abuse or neglect every month, nearly twice the number of reports received in Boston.

Haleigh's tragic case has underscored weaknesses in the child welfare system. In an effort to address those weaknesses, House Speaker Salvatore F. DiMasi has filed legislation requiring written second opinions and recommendations from an ethics committee in end-of-life cases, the creation of a Cabinet-level secretary of child welfare and a 19-member advisory board on child abuse and neglect and minimum education requirements for social workers.

We applaud DiMasi for his work on this important piece of legislation. The child welfare system is complex, but that doesn't mean it can't be fixed.

While we expect there will be some changes in the legislation before it becomes law, we urge the Statehouse to act judiciously and quickly so that no child will ever have to suffer as Haleigh Poutre has suffered.

DSS reforms could save children's lives

DSS is now very sensitive about Haleigh and kids like her. I sure hope they don't try again to pull the plug so fast even if the kids do have profitable organs to harvest. Maybe I am too cynical. Or not.

By ANGELO MCCLAIN and dennis gauthier

Mr. McClain is commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Social Services. Mr. Gauthier is director of the agency's New Bedford area office.

Over the last few months, Department of Social Services staff — in New Bedford and across the state — have shared this community's sense of sadness and concern about deeply disturbing incidents of child abuse in the region.............

YOUR VIEW: DSS shares New Bedford's concern about abuse cases

The unions are against the Haleigh bill.

"The purpose of our bill is to ensure that child protection is a constant focus at the highest levels of state government," DiMasi said in written testimony. "Our goal . . . is to create a reasonable and straightforward approach to fixing the complex problems within the system."

The bill is the result of a case study on Haleigh Poutre, a 13-year-old who was hospitalized with severe brain injuries in 2005 after a brutal beating by her adoptive mother who was under DSS supervision.

From Lafayette, LA comes this on Terri...

.................................

Is there a difference between letting someone die and causing their death?

Medical ethics traditionally has held that there is a radical difference between the two. In the face of those who would argue in favor of euthanasia, or mercy killing, faith-based people everywhere recognize that God is the author of life, and human life whether our own or that of others is not our "property" to be disposed of at will.

Underlying this position is the conviction that there is inherent in the human person a fundamental dignity and worth that no disease or injury or action can erase or diminish. Therefore, even those persons (and they are still human persons!) who can no longer care for themselves, or speak to us or tell us of their needs, have a claim on us for the normal care to be given to any human being.

A recent statement from the Vatican reaffirmed this truth in regard to persons in what is unfortunately called a "persistent vegetative state." These persons, unlike those in coma or simply unconscious, will never recover. They will never walk or talk or even feed themselves.

Some may remember a Florida woman named Terry Schiavo in precisely this condition, whose life was terminated in 2005 by refusing her the most basic of human needs, food and water. It was her case which led the U.S. Catholic Bishops to request clarification from Rome on questions regarding care for persons in conditions like hers, where there is no terminal illness..................

Disease cannot diminish dignity, worth of human lif

Carrie K. Hutchens of the Dakota Voice tells about TerriPAC as they decide to MoveON.

Quoting the now defunct political action committee's website, whether it be Derek Newton or Michael Schiavo that actually posted...

"I say TerriPAC "was" because I've decided to close TerriPAC."

Whomever is writing the material is making it sound as though it is merely time to move on and to do other things. The only hint there might be a "slight" problem is with comments like, "Traveling around the country, making political donations and keeping up with the required legal paperwork takes funds."............................

Fred and Terri redux.

Need I say it again? Every day the media reminds of the gaffe about Terri. It is the leftists obsessed with this because they can't shake the ghost of Terri's Legacy. The mistake he made as I said before was double. Although conservatives were bothered, at least they can try to understand and let it go. But the lefties cannot and that is the second mistake. They dwell on this weight too much. Shakespeare would have appreciated this irony.

.............................

Republican Fred Thompson said he was unaware that a judge ruled last week that lethal injection procedures in his home state were unconstitutional and that the U.S. Supreme Court had agreed to consider a Kentucky case about whether lethal injection violates the Constitution's ban on cruel and unusual punishment.

It's not the first time he has been caught off-guard on hot-button topics. In Florida, he seemed surprised when asked about oil drilling in the Everglades, a major issue there. He also gave no opinion when asked about efforts by President Bush and Congress to keep brain-damaged Terri Schiavo alive two years ago, saying he did not remember the details.

Fred and Terri again...

Hmmm, this is from AP. The text looks strangely similar to what I saw earlier.....

It's not the first time Thompson has been caught off-guard by questions on hot-button topics. In Florida earlier this month, Thompson seemed surprised when asked about oil drilling in the Everglades, a major issue in the state.

Thompson also gave no opinion when asked about efforts by President Bush and Congress to keep brain-damaged Terri Schiavo alive two years ago, saying he did not remember details of the case that stirred national debate.

Fred and Terri in the Washington Post...

The warbling rings from this paper in harmony with birdcage liners across the nation.

Harris said Thompson would not be borrowing from parts of the Republican agenda in 1994, such as eliminating the Department of Education and imposing term limits on members of Congress. And that will be the next question for the candidate, when he'll start laying out a specific policy vision. His first two weeks on the stump were marked by ducking answers to the sort of difficult questions he had promised his campaign would be about answering, such as how to reform Social Security and uncertainty about his views on issues that have dominated the headlines, such as the Terri Schiavo situation from two years ago and oil drilling in the Everglades in Florida.

IMHO

As I showed in today's posts and those of recent days, the media cannot resist setting up the "Fred forgets Terri" Tar Baby.

Recent debates define an incipient watershed. One cluster of candidates shuns the riffraff for the higher and elite ground, a plane embraced and anointed by the higher powers of mankind. The other sticks to principles, and keeps shoveling out not just from the holes dug by cooperating media but from the anointing powers as well.

As we see each day, Terri's Legacy is a factor in this watershed. Her Legacy is carefully avoided by top tier candidates, yet is held unabashedly by at least three of those who hold such principles foremost.

May this be a lesson to those who would be President... Ignore Terri's Legacy at your own peril. Take a cue from the Vatican, from pro-life groups. If that doesn't do it, then peek at the media and the leftists. Notice Terri's Legacy bothers them enormously and ask yourselves why.

Duncan Hunter, Alan Keyes, and Sen. Brownback all take solid stands on the Legacy of Terri. For, what happened to Terri portends what can happen to many if her fate is ignored. And that represents a whole lot of watching voters if nothing else stirs the heart.

As Terri's Legacy remains strong and persists, the famous detractor, Mikey's TerriPAC, fades and flops. The Vatican comes on strong, and the leftists wince. The lies of the death enthusiasts grow transparent amidst the shouting and the masks peel back.

May this be a lesson to voters. Choose a candidate unshakable in principle. We have a country to protect.

NANCY GRANT UPDATE: She's going to appeal. I would surmise that while she's on appeal, the ridiculous gag order will be lifted. Sentence is 15 yrs probation and $30,000 fine. That's what happens when you catch a justice system making their own rules and throwing the right to a speedy trial to the wind (except in Nancy Grant's case. She got a speedy trial because she's a whistleblower).

Can you imagine fining someone $30,000 for trumped up charges????

The memory of Terri is haunting people now... Where were they when she needed them (although better late than never.)

Terri's in the local liberal rag practically every day. Her name's mentioned on tv somewhere every day.

I don't think the death cultists knew this was going to be the outcome. I believe they planned on having their death cruises, lecture circuits and books on how to kill innocent people through the court system, illegally I might add.

They didn't count on Terri's supporters at large standing against their corrupt agenda until all the pieces fit. And, yes, the scientologists had a stake in Terri's death too and their attorney gave Judge Greer one of his first awards for killing her.

As Fr. Pavone said at Terri's Gulfport Memorial Service "Judge Greer isn't the real Judge." It was the only time people there to celebrate Terri's shortened life chuckled during the mass.

As we found out recently from a c-span appearance by J. Greer, "EVERYONE AGAINST ME WERE BLOGGERS." That would be 1. God Can you see God blogging away for Terri on his Dell computer? LOL

NANCY GRANT fyi: The court will lien any real property of hers if she doesn't pay $28,500 in December. ROBBER BARRONS ON THE BENCH.

She said the state attorney lost the case. “He lost because I didn’t go to jail ... They sentenced me to 15 years probation and fined me $30,000. That’s a buncha money.” The final judgment for fines and costs included eight statutory fines set by state law, but the bulk of the judgment consisted of 19 separate fines of $1,500 for each of the 19 counts, for a total of $28,500. Judge Lee Haworth imposed several special conditions of probation.

He said the fines and costs imposed by the court must be paid in full on or before Dec. 3, or Grant will have her driver’s license suspended. He said that until paid in full, the judgment will be a lien on all non-exempt real and personal property owned by Grant." FV says: and take her driver's license. This judge must know J. Greer. He's ANOTHER WOMAN HATER.

Evenin'. I just found out that Nancy Grant ran for Fla guv as a write-in candidate in 2000. No wonder she's being railroaded.

She wasn't a big fan of the Bushes. It's all making sense to me now. She was a Terri supporter and in Fla's Jail4Judges.

Nancy Grant ping. FYI: She was railroaded in DeSoto County and is appealing her conviction and sentence. She exposed a mini-Gitmo for Hispanics in DeSoto County so they retaliated by charging her w/a statute that's expired. Now they're extorting 30K from her by December or no license and they're liening her property.

The media is not covering this because it makes Florida's justice system look corrupt which it is.
