HURON Fred Thompson won the first-ever South Dakota Republican Party Presidential Straw Poll at the South Dakota State Fair Aug. 30 through Sept. 3, 2007.
Thompson bested the field of nine garnering 25 percent of the vote. He was followed by Rudy Giuliani who received 19 percent; John McCain received 14 percent, Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney each received 13 percent; Ron Paul received 8 percent; Duncan Hunter received 4 percent; Sam Brownback received 3 percent; and Tom Tancredo received 1 percent of the vote.
More than 500 people voted in the poll which was conducted at the South Dakota State Fair. Voting was open to anyone who will be 18 by the June 3, 2008, primary.
We had a phenomenal response from the voters in South Dakota, said South Dakota Republican Party Executive Director Max Wetz. This was a unique opportunity for voters to support their favorite candidate and we are very pleased with the turnout.

I've been saying Fred Thompson would announce on September 4 since May. He's right on time.
I support him all the more because he is not willing to be buffaloed into running on Hillary!'s timetable.

Well, maybe the questions need to be asked.. were the voting machines Dibold? Thompson is a member of the CFR after all, so there has to be a conspiracy involved to get their man in.. also, Paul got EIGHT percent (which is proof he isn't in the single digits like many claim) and Eight rhymes with Hate, as in, the CFR people hate Paul, so there is proof they were sending him a message that they are in control.. Paul was robbed I tell you..

Look at those numbers.
In this particular instance, Thompson has the support of Romney, Paul and Hunter combined.
But... how can this be?
Everyone told me he’s making a huge mistake by going on Leno tomorrow instead of debating.

That’s great! I know my FRiends in Ipswitch take their politics VERY serious! So, this one means something.
But, it is a shame that Duncan and Tancredo came in below Dr. Paul.

But, it is a shame that Duncan and Tancredo came in below Dr. Paul. Just go to Google's Blog Search and read the blogs on how they are flashmobbing these straw polls.. but, more importantly, read backwards into the people that are organizing this and are going to the polls. These aren't the type of folks that would ever vote for Hunter or Tancredo (or any other Republican for that matter.)

Ya' know, if you ask ten South Dakotans where New Hampshire is on a map, 8 of them will reply...
Why would I?
The other two will be polite, as most South Dakotans are, and say...
I'm so sorry, did your car breakdown on your way through? Can I call a taxi for you or something?

Winning the county fair straw poll settles it then. There’s no stopping Mr. Thompson now - now that’s he’s won the much sought after, first ever, South Dakota straw poll; by 6 percentage points! The guy’s a juggernaut.

Oh, that's only when Paul wins or finishes at the top of them, like he did in IA, NH, WA, AL, TX.

Rudy Giuliani has consistently lead most national polls since he first announced.
Also, Mr. Giuliani was leading on Labor Day. So, if history holds true, as the candidate who is the front runner on Labor Day, Rudy Giuliani will be the nominee of the Republican party.

All this really means is that 25% of people that like to go to state fairs, prefer Fred. Although the SD State Fair had this

headlining last Friday. I'm not the type to go to state fairs, but this would have been tempting.

I think this bodes well for Fred's chances in the SD primary. If the Republican nomination is still undecided by NEXT JUNE, it might mean something.
There's a reason states keep moving up their primaries. Being last means being irrelevant.

I find it interesting that Huckabee and Romney tied. And Hunter is bumped up to 4 percent.
I like Fred’s numbers, he is really consistent in most states.
