Arrests made in bomb-related cases

By LEVI PULKKINEN
P-I REPORTER

Bainbridge Island police arrested a 17-year-old boy Friday after a search of his computers revealed bomb threats against Bainbridge Island High School.

Police found marijuana and bomb-making materials at the boy's home following a bomb threat against the school in June, Deputy Chief Mark Duncan said. The boy pleaded guilty to several related charges in juvenile court earlier this year.

During a search of 17 computers found at the boy's home, police found a message from the boy to another student that included a bomb threat, Duncan said. The boy was booked into Kitsap County Juvenile Detention on Friday on suspicion of making bomb threats.

Duncan said the investigation into the threat remains open, and cautioned that the boy has not been accused of making the specific threat against the school in June.

In an unrelated case, a 42-year-old man suspected of blowing up an Orting police cruiser was arrested over the weekend.

A pipe bomb destroyed the police car in July 2006.

In August, a federal grand jury indicted Terry Overton for destroying the car and bomb-making charges. He was scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court Tuesday in Tacoma.

I have 23! Of course only two are running. The rest are old Commodore 64s and 128s with a few TIs (collect them from yard sales … for posterity, ya know). Even an old Packard Bell (my first non-Commodore PC).

Just because he has 17 computers in his home doesn’t mean he is using them all at the same time … doesn’t mean he isn’t either. ;-)

Something tells me the authorities are getting a serious case of the vapors over this kid. I don’t see him turning out as a Unabomber. I could be wrong, but lots of seventeen year olds smoke pot and talk a real big game to their friends. As far as the bomb making materials are concerned, I’d like to know some more specific details. I’ll bet it wasn’t a load of C-4 or ANFO, but more likely black powder or ten thousand match heads. My gut tells me this is no big deal to anyone except some low grade detective looking for a promotion, and of course, the press.

Sounds like a nice collection....and if you ever find yourself pining for that Commodore 64 experience, you won't have to install an emulator on your modern, cutting-edge machine (s)   :-)  I think that one reason why a lot of people attain a bit of a collection of these, particularly when they're not running and not economically repairable, is that (at least here in The People's Republic of Seattle) it costs money to get rid of them, and nobody seems to want the old stuff, not even charities.  I needed to get rid of a big old CRT monitor a few months ago and Office Depot wanted (I think) $20.  just to take it.....and it was a Sony!  (there was this little issue with the flyback transformer, but what the hey ).

Just because he has 17 computers in his home doesn’t mean he is using them all at the same time … doesn’t mean he isn’t either. ;-)

Perhaps part of his legal defense was that he had them all daisy-chained to multiply the RAM and CPU speed because he was linked to the SETI project, and after doing this he fell under alien mind control, and they told him to bomb his high school......

Me too....it's too short of an article to provide any real insights, unfortunately.

All my machines are in excellent working condition. Tons of old software and peripherals to go with them. When we get nuked back into the compatible computer OS century by the Iranians, I will be prepared. ;-)

“Perhaps part of his legal defense … “ LOL! Would be my excuse.
