Hypocrisy as an "Impeachable" Offense

Why did Sen. Larry Craig resign? Was it that he was exposed as a homosexual? That he is also a Republican? That he lied? That he committed a misdemeanor? That he is a hypocrite? Or that Republicans had to offer him in sacrifice lest they too -- horrors -- be accused of party-wide hypocrisy?

Obviously, he resigned under pressure from the left -- which ought to be defending him -- and his GOP colleagues.

The larger question, then, is why both the left and right came down so hard on Craig. MSNBC's Chris Matthews inveighed against Craig because Republicans have railed against "San Francisco Democrats" and "hypocrisy does loom here."

Matthews' "Hardball" guest, Salon's Joan Walsh, agreed. "Hypocrisy absolutely looms, Chris. … The Republican Party has made itself the party of the bedroom police. They've gone after gays, they've snickered about San Francisco Democrats, and they went after Bill Clinton in a sexual kind of witch hunt, and so they've left themselves really open to double standards."

Not so fast, Chris and Joan. While many "values voters" admittedly disapprove of homosexual behavior, they are not anti-gay in the sense liberals are suggesting.

Which is worse, Craig’s situation or Barney Franks having a homosexual brothel run out of his own home? Heh heh heh, the democrats and the MSM are sure a hoot.

The "hypocrisy" charge is pretty serious ~ if you're a Moslem. They are enjoined to "slaughter the hypocrites".

Problem with the hypocrisy charge against Larry Craig is that he seemed to be enamored with anonymous sex with vast numbers of folks he didn't know.

Just how you going to maintain anonymity with someone you might marry ~ or even with several people under a plural system.

Obviously the toilet cruiser rump-ranger lifestyle really isn't compatible with marriage, and all it does is reduce the number of suitable partners as other gays are married off and out of that milieu.

No, Larry wasn't an hypocrite ~ in fact, quite the opposite ~ he was taking care of NUMBER 1.

Dems can’t be guilty of hypocrisy. You have to have stand for something before you can be a hypocrite.

It’s quite easy David. Liberals jump to condemn any pub acting in an improper way as a “hypocrite” so it makes it easier for them to evade justice when they are caught with their own fingers in “cookie’s” jar...which they are so inclined to do on a much larger scale and on a much more regular basis than pubs.

In other words “See America! Everyone does it, so leave me alone to my indiscriminate proclivities!”

The minute this story came out, our newspaper’s resident flaming liberal wrote a piece based on his assumption that Craig is gay and that being gay is biological. Whether he is or not, I don’t know. I am a nurture, not nature believer.

He complained about how gays are treated by Christian conservatives and said he couldn’t understand why we couldn’t just live and let live.

When I replied to his article, I mentioned that free thinkers have already petitioned the ACLU to take up the case of removing age limits on sex with children.

Civilization did not advance by normalizing the abnormal.

In working against the homosexual agenda, Larry Craig was representing his constituents. That is his job. Here in NYS, Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward, elected by conservative Republicans, made a passionate speech asking NYS to pass the gay marriage amendment because her son is gay. She thus misrepresented herself to her constituents. Who is the bigger hypocrite?

Why did Sen. Larry Craig resign?

Because he made a disgusting fool of himself?

If homosexuality itself was still criminal (as is prostitution) it wouldn’t matter if he was soliciting to have sex inside the bathroom or at home.

As it stands now, there was little “evidence” to show that he was asking to have sex IN the bathroom.

If you make eye contact with and smile at a vice squad cop who’s posing as a prostitute, is that enough to say that you were willing to pay to have sex with her at your home?

If it was hypocricy the Dems wouldn’t have one do as I sayer left. Bottom line it is a crime to be a Reppublican since they can’t win at the ballot box.

In this case, it does not really matter to me if Craig is gay or not. Two points that make this very simple; 1. Acquiring sex from a stranger (be it male or female)in an airport bathroom displays a tremendous lack of judgment. 2.His behavior after the fact was disgusting and very corrupt. Any man who is a senator, that does not have the ability to control himself, is a liability in the fact they could be blackmailed. That is why you want leaders with a clean and moral conscience to be entrusted in positions of power.

If hypocrisy were a crime and we were all Moslems we'd all be dead.

The only charge the left can dare make against Craig is that he is some kind of hypocrite.

It's pretty obvious these guys who cruise for sex in public toilets are hardly hypocritical if they reject the "gay marriage" option ~ after all, that's going to do nothing more than reduce the number of possible "dates" in their little world.

Ergo, even the hypocrisy charge doesn't stick. On the other hand, public toilets are for a variety of purposes ~ none of them involve "dates".
