Mexico Trying To Help Arellano Return To U.S.
Associated Press with CBS 2 ^ | September 4, 2007

(AP) MEXICO The Mexican government said Tuesday it is talking with U.S. officials about whether a deported illegal migrant and activist could return to the United States.

Elvira Arellano was arrested and sent back to her native Mexico last month after taking refuge in a Chicago church for a year to avoid a deportation order.

Mexican Foreign Secretary Patricia Espinosa said she approached U.S. authorities on Arellano's behalf after the 32-year-old asked Mexican President Felipe Calderon to help her return to the United States legally as a "peace and justice" ambassador.

Espinosa did not say whether Mexico planned to give Arellano the diplomatic post, but said officials were trying to determine if there was any way should could go back to Chicago.

Arellano's U.S.-born 8-year-old son, Saul, is a U.S. citizen. He flew to Mexico on Friday to reunite with his mother, and plans to stay here indefinitely, although he was expected to return briefly to the United States this month to participate in an immigrant rights march.

Mexico has yet to receive an answer from U.S. officials, Espinosa said at a news conference Tuesday.

"The government in the receiving country has to authorize diplomatic posts. It has to grant the visa," Espinosa said. "It is not something that is within the power of the Mexican government alone."

A U.S. embassy spokeswoman in Mexico who was not authorized to give her name said she could not confirm whether the talks had taken place. She noted that privacy laws bar embassy officials from discussing specific cases.

Arellano said she would not back down from her request and was angered that Mexico was seeking a U.S. visa, adding that the Mexican government should not have to ask permission to send her north of the border.

"I'm not asking for any visa," she said. "I want a diplomatic post as ambassador of peace and justice, and I won't accept anything less."

Sure is a lot of demands coming from a known CRIMINAL.
I say let’s finish the fence and let her bounce back into her HOMELAND a coupla times until she gets the fact that while she may be the Mexican version of Cindy Sheehan (read: a headache looking to outlive her 15 minutes of fame), nobody really gives a hoot what she ‘won’t accept’, LOL! :-)

Miss Arellano is single handedly doing more to strengthen the anti-illegal immigration cause than anyone else could. Thanks Elvira and please keep it up. You are making more people aware every day why we need a secure border fence.

Great news! The unlawful anchor baby has fled!

, although he was expected to return briefly to the United States this month to participate in an immigrant rights march.

Ah, I see she is planning to use him as a pawn as never before. What a bitch.

Forcing an 8 year old boy to participate in marches is child abuse. Lefties have no regard for anyone other than themselves. This poor kid is a tool for them, that is the real tragedy here.

I’ll admit she’s cagey. Trying to be sent back to the US, and with a lucrative civil service job to boot.

Wherever he lives, I wish they’d leave Saul alone and let him be a kid for a change. One article said he was made to hand out leaflets all during a Fourth of July celebration, but was openly crying and asking why he couldn’t play with sparklers and watch the fireworks like other kids.

Given her criminal history the US could easily declare her PNG. It would settle the issue

A demanding, unrepentive criminal. Didn't that chuch she was hiding out in for a year teach her anything?
