Portuguese police say they have found firm DNA evidence that the body of Madeleine McCann was in the boot of the family's hire car five weeks after she went missing, sources have told Sky News.
Kate McCann leaves PortimaoSky crime correspondent Martin Brunt, speaking from Portimao, said police were "adamant" they had found the most "damning" evidence yet implicating either one or both of the McCanns in their daughter's death.
The evidence came in blood samples returned from the Forensic Science Service in Birmingham.
"Police say it is the most damning evidence that has been returned by the tests," Brunt said.
"It shows, as far as they are concerned, the presence of Madeleine's body in the car five weeks after she disappeared."
He continued: "The evidence suggests very strongly that it was not that her DNA had been transferred from clothing or from a cuddly toy.
"The allegation is that the DNA shows a full match of 99%. According to police, it shows the presence of Madeleine's body in the boot of the family's hire car five weeks after she disappeared."
took me a minute — I guess “hire car” is a rental car.
What has been the delay?
Good mercy....these parents have got to be monsters!
And “boot” is trunk?
If the evidence is so strong, they ought to tell us what makes it so. Especially since the only thing that has proven strong so far is their incompetence.
I don't get it? Do they mean five weeks after Madeleine disappeared... the DNA shows up in the car? Or Five weeks later, the DNA is still in the car? Can I buy a clue?
Yes that’s right.
Brit Ping list PING
They rented the car 25 days after Madeleine McCann disappeared.
At that time, they were not suspects and the police were pursuing other leads.
It was not until after three months of dead ends on every non-parental lead that the Portuguese authorities started taking a hard look at the McCanns as suspects.
So they probably did not begin looking at the car until a few weeks ago.
Yup.
Or the police are faking the test results. Best not to accept any news story at face value in these times.
Not necessarily. Selfish, yes, but not monsters. Mrs. McCann probably accidentally killed Madelaine and they hatched a cover-up so that they would not be charged and lose their other children. It was very wrong, but not monstrous, assuming that Maddie’s death was accidental, of course. But I don’t think the authorities have suggested otherwise.
I wonder who was renting the car at the time she disappeared since the DNA does not have a date stamp on it?
Really? How so?
The only evidence of incompetence I've seen so far is that they did not automatically place the parents on the short list of suspects - which would be standard practice for the FBI or the MI5.
This is BS.
Rental car could have easily been used to transport anything the girl ever touched, wore, shed hair on, etc. This could easilly transfer DNA sample to car.
This is local cops trying to put pressure on parrents.
I’m not convinced either. How do they know the DNA was transfered five weeks AFTER the abduction? Could it have been from a cloth or towel used to car for a skinned knee or nose-bleed and then thrown in the trunk PRIOR TO her abduction?
The car was not even rented until five weeks after Maddie disappeared. The police theory is that Kate killed her and hid the body for five weeks, then put it in the car and buried her somewhere.
If they found the blood (DNA) three or even five DAYS later that's one thing, but in car they rented five weeks later, come on. This is baloney.
To make htis stick, one must assume they hid body for 5 weeks while everyone was looking for her, in Portugal, in Summer, in place where body did not smell, then transported her while everyone was watching them.
BS.
