I will be interested to hear the police explain what the McCann’s allegedly did with Maddy’s body for twenty-five days and how she was still bleeding at that time.
The only sloppy aspect of their investigation so far is taking the McCanns at their word.
If this DNA evidence is so damning of the parents, it should pass muster of independent review.
It already has. It has been through a Portuguese lab and a UK lab.
I bet the police retract this claim real quick once they are asked to show the details.
They have already handed over the case, including all the DNA evidence, to the prosecutor.
They have shown the details.
Did Nifong move to Portugal?
The poster I was responding to was commenting on the smell of a decomposing body.
While I guess there are ways you could store a body for 25 days so that, when finally transported, it could start bleeding, I don’t think any of them would also lead to the small of a decomposing body.
Sorry, but cops have zip, zero.
Assuming that story from cops is true, all they have is that at sometime, somehow some of her blood got into trumk of car.
I can give you a dozen reasonable doubt explanations right now.
That would be quite a coincidence indeed. I presume the police have investigated all the intervening renters and company employees by now - if they got this wrong, they would be in serious professional and legal trouble at this point.
Hmm.
Yep, I’m not a forensic specialist. I simply thought that in the past the idea of their being blood flow was used to suggest someone had died recently, vs having been dead for a while.
But I guess that’s not the same as the blood being gone, or no longer flowing.
Although I wonder how two doctors would store a dead body for 25 days in a way that would THEN allow it to actually bleed into the car they used to transport it.
Wouldn’t they have had it in a body bag or other plastic container?
They have DNA evidence verified by two labs.

The trunk of a car they had not rented until after she disappeared.
I can give you a dozen reasonable doubt explanations right now.
I'll take the first six.
I presume one of them will be that the "real killers" happened to rent the exact same car that the McCanns did.
That’s what I am thinking.
Monster if you believe the Portugese police, who are under a lot of pressure, not to mention corrupt and incompetent.
Okay, they rented the car five weeks after she disappeared.
Not to be too graphic but where does one stash a body for five weeks so that the blood doesn't dry up?
I dunno, maybe I just don't have a criminal mind but it just doesn't add up to me that they'd find blood that would have been placed there five weeks after the fact.
Freeze it then thaw it out!
I suspect Portugal is taking a black eye on this case and hit on tourism! In any event, the news media will have a new case to "solve" for many months!
Even if the McCanns wrapped their daughter’s body in plastic, it’s still likely there’s be some leakage in the trunk. Between the summer heat and the jostling of the car...well, it wouldn’t be surprising if at least some trace of bodily fluids remained in the trunk after the body was removed. (I should say that I am unlcear if the police believe Madeleine’s body was ever in the rental car. It’s possible that simply clothes or linens with Madeleine’s blood on them — and scientists can tell if blood came from a living or dying person — were at one point in the rental car trunk.)
There is much talk of their supposed incompetence and corruption, but not a lot of evidence of it.
Can you cite some?
Overdosages of several drugs can cause nosebleeds...not saying this is what happened, but merely throwing it out there as a possibility.
Maybe they did not leave them alone - that is just their story to suggest abduction.
25 days later ?
Wonder where the body was in the interim ?
That bothered me too. But then I just read that the parents weren’t considered suspects until all other paths of investigations dried up and they backtracked and began looking at the parents. If that is indeed true, then they probably would not have been watched. It’s still strange, though, I agree. Everyone would have known what they looked like, so they took a big risk.
1. She scraped her knee and we were getting rid of some of her old clothes.
2. If she had been dead for 25/35 days, how did liquid blood get anywhere?
3. How was body hidden from police search?
4. Her DNA was on everything in our possession, as was her mother’s, father’s, sibling’s etc.
5. Eschior did it
6. Global warming, (Bush’s fault)
7. Not global warming, (Still Bush’s fault)
