Hornish to run at NHIS in #06: Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the #06 Penske Truck Rental Dodge Avenger, will attempt to make his Nextel Cup Series debut at New Hampshire on Sunday in the Car of Tomorrow. This is Hornish’s first run at the 1.058-mile oval. Although Hornish’s 2008 plans have not been determined, the 28-year-old will attempt to qualify for no more than seven events, including each of the five remaining COT races with Roy McCauley leading the charge taking chassis PRS-512 to this weekend’s Sylvania 300.

BTW What race would everyone choose to go to if they won?

The UAW-Dodge 400!

In my best Dick Vitale impression....

Bristol, baby, Bristol!

It would be a tough decision.

I doubt I can win, it’s one of those salary cap games and I haven’t done well with those.

Bristol would also be a great choice.

It’s the pit passes that entice me. :)

Also....I have no reason to stay up for this but some may be interested.

The top-12 drivers will appear on The Late Show with David Letterman on Wednesday, September 12, 11:35pm/et on CBS.(9-11-2007)

Oh, yea. Up until last year I was really bummed about the pit pass thing at LVMS - had to be 18 yrs of age...the boy.

Then some brainiac thunk up the Neon Garage idea...and the world was right again!

Pit passes are still separate purchase, but I - and the boy - are less than 10 ft from where that ticket holder is. And I can see the front end of the garage stall, about 12" away (with my nose pressed against the glass!), and they can't!

I saw that, I’m glad they both got rides this week.

Hornish is interesting to me in that I’m wondering how he will do starting Nascar in the COT of all things.

There’s been a little scuttlebutt that Stremme may be gone early so Dar-Ash can get used to the car this year.

And Ambrose should have a ride from Crash at Dover.

Will the Chase rob Jeff Gordon of another title?

I read the article. While the author obviously likes JG, he does make a good point or two.

BUT....pretty much the same with the NFL, isn't? You can be undefeated in the regular season, lose the next game and you go home. No respect for the undefeated regular season performance.

Or the year Smoke did not make it, lack luster during the first 26 races, does not make the chase, then wins, what - 3 races in the final 10?

I think it's a stretch to say that JG was / will be again robbed. Everybody knows the rules. Who can make it happen when it counts the most?

It takes a whole lot to win a Cup championship, perhaps more so than any other sport.....you win 4 games in the NFL and you be the King....4 games in the NBA, etc.

A recent article suggested the Chase be limited to 5 or 6 drivers........??

I do think they need to change the qualification criteria for the top 10 12, though.....you have to have a win to get in.

The Chase does make it interesting, unlike the Busch series where a driver can run away with it (even miss a race or two) and win.

A line has to be drawn somewhere. IMHO, I think the latest set of qualifications to enter the Chase seem to be fair.

And now that it has begun it will be interesting to see who will be the biggest whinner. I vote for the elder shrub.

Agreed.

DirecTV really gave me the beak, when ever KUBU is on, I can't lock out the channel so as not to hit it by mistake.

I really can't stand to listen to him when he tries to play "team leader".....gag.....

Apologies in advance to the KUBU fan out there....

Never been a fan of the chase. Even though I am a Jeff Gordon fan and he would have had his FIFTH championship the first year of it's inception, the rules are all the same for every driver and we all knew that going in.

If you look at it, it doesn't make sense. In other sports playoffs, only those that get to the finals get to play. That's not the case with Nascar. All teams are still involved and someone not even close, can take out the points leader. The alternative of only having 10-12 cars on the track for the final races would be far too boring (read IROC).

The chase places far too much emphasis on the last 10 races, they're suddenly more important than the first ten, but only to the 10-12 in the finals. What the hell about the other 30-odd drivers, sponsors, and fans?

Championships should reflect consistency and not come down to having one set of fans cheer the demise of another's driver.

I view it as another fix to a non existent problem. If a driver runs off with the points lead, then he deserves the championship.

Enough "rant of the day". :)

Toyota hit the jackpot with JGR, and JGR got what it wanted - to be the top team for a manufacturer

An old proverb: Be carefull of what you wish for!

I hope the JGR teams are still happy after the fisrt few weeks. My guess is that if Smoke ain't happy, nobody there is gonna be happy.

Are ya done yet? LOL

A 60 point spread is virtually insignificant in the course of a 10 week span.

It’ll be fun. Really!

I don't care for the chase with previous 10 and now 12 racers.

They should have more underdogs in it. Not sure of the final number but 20 seems just about right for me.

Let's face it, week after week there are only about 20 that really have a chance. Jr. not being in it this year is silly (perfect example for 20).

How about a wild-card race before the Chase starts.

Any drivers from 13-20 that finish in the top five make the Chase.

That should create some mayhem & chaos!

Not really, but got a new toy to play with so I had to bump off for a while.

Got a new laptop, told wife it was for work. It's supposed to be, but this is where I came first. LOL
