ST. LOUIS, Sept. 11 PRNewswire-FirstCall — The Boeing Company (NYSE: BA) has been awarded a 10-year, $1.1 billion U.S. Air Force contract to continue providing programmed depot maintenance (PDM) for the nation's KC-135 Stratotanker fleet. Boeing will perform the work for more than 200 KC-135 aircraft at facilities in Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri.

Since the initial KC-135 PDM contract award in October 1998, Boeing has completed scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on more than 160 aircraft. Conducted every five years, scheduled PDM services include depot-level inspections, repairs, maintenance, modifications, re-painting and supply chain services. Unscheduled maintenance comprises about half of the work performed on each aircraft.

Why shouldn’t Boeing get the contract, I flew the A from 68-76 and the depot repair was great, who else is more familiar with the airplane?

I’m kind of confused about your comment. Are you saying that there is something wrong with the contract so that Boeing is making some sort of excessive profit? Are you concerned with the contract amount? Perhaps we should out-source the work to some mainland Chinese MRO shop and save a few bucks.

To all lurking RATS, don not worry. Hitlery has already made a deal to break this contract when she is crowned. The contract will then go to her ChiCom supporters as partial payback for the unlimited campaign funding.

You both could not be more wrong.

Since I am a capitalist, I own Boeing stock. When they get awarded with all of these great contracts the company stocks go UP. Therefore I laugh all the way to the bank.

Good week for Boeing (last 7 days). They were just awarded the upper stage contract for the new NASA launch vehicle too.

I was a crewman on the K-135Q model at Little Rock AFB from 1967-1969. Great aircraft!

Must be a great aircraft - how old are the airframes now? 40 years old?

They need to modernize and get some new tankers.

I had a lot of pucker time on take off, when they had the J-57 engines and we were heavy. No problems for 8 years nary an engine shut down, now they have upgraded the engines, this bird will be around forever.

You read a lot about great aircraft, old but still flying, like the B-52 and C-130. Here’s an aircraft that’s been around a long, long time without getting much credit.
