September eleven remembered in Poland

Created: Tuesday, September 11. 2007

Candles will burn again on the symbolic graves of those from the Podlasie Region in Poland who perished in the terrorist attack on the World Trade Centre six years ago.

Among them were Lukasz Milewski from Suwalki and Dorota Kopiczko from Augustow.

In the Suwalki cementary, there is a tombstone dedicated to the two who died, which resembles the Twin Towers joined by a crucifix, where candles are lit up on every September 11.

The Christ the King Chapel in Suwałki is dedicated to Lukasz and the church bell is named after him.

A mass is held in his honour Suwalki on every anniversary of the tragedy. Lukasz Milewski was 21 years old.

His body was one of many never identified.

Friends and family will also gather around the symbolic grave of Dorota Kopiczko from Augustów who perished on the same day. Dorota and Łukasz are also among the six names engraved on the commemorative plaque in Warsaw dedicated to the New York attack victims.

The message on the plaque reads: "In honour of the Poles who lost their lives on that day".

In Poznan firemen will commemorate the lives of 300 of their American colleagues who then died while on a rescue mission.

A commemorative assembly will also be held by young people from in the town of Kalisz and surrounding areas.

They will burn candles for the 9/11 victims in a wood clearing by the obelisks near the village of Szwacin.

Six years ago, on September 11 two passenger planes hit the World Trade Centre killing more than 2700 people.

“The Poles have proven themselves to be true allies of the United States
since the 1980’s.”

And during WWII.
As partially related in “A Bridge Too Far”.
And of course they were flying with the RAF even before Pearl
Harbor was happening to us.

Too bad we didn’t find a way to throttle Uncle Joe (Stalin) sufficiently
(without starting WWIII)...to convince him to let Poland (and
other countries) go their own way.

I guess I’ll be seeing that monument when I go to Europe to see Iron Maiden in a few countries.

What a haunting and thought-provoking memorial.

There is so much to admire about Poland. Wonderful people and a wonderful place. I’m thinking that I should visit there someday.

Poland is strongly Catholic, and the head-choppers have made few inroads. However, England, Holland, Denmark, Sweden have lost their Christianity, and the head-choppers are marching in.
Understand why the Pope is concerned?

The Phoenix, AZ 9/11 memorial, which includes a star and crescent (but no cross), and referrences to retaliatory attacks against American citizens of Arab descent, and US military bombings of noncombatants in Islamic countries.

Indeed. Thank you, Poland!

Over fifty years of Communist occupation seems to have ironically kept Eastern Europe sane while the rest of us have gone stark raving mad. I'm sure that's not what Lenin and Stalin had in mind!

To reiterare a common theme here: Poland is indeed a true ally. Thank you and God Bless the People of Poland. This is one of the reasons why - if I take a trip to Europe - I will spend my tourist dollars in a country like Poland, as opposed to France (although Sarkozy shows some promise).

Amazing. More respect and reverence than the left has here in this country.
Got to love these staunch allies.

Trust me, all of AZ is not only embarrassed of this monstrosity, but outraged that it even was quietly erected by these so called "9/11 experts." The guy who was supposedly in charge (the liberal union head for the Phoenix FD) claimed "he didn't know" that this crap was included on this lie of a "memorial."

A year after it was put up, we are still angry and asking why it hasn't been revised, as the tax payers have asked. Our "do nothing, blames everyone else" Gubernadora Napolitano isn't interested in changing the disrespectful (and disgusting) comments on the thing either.

It must be depressing to be Dennis Kucinich with no chance in hell to become President and spitting into the wind.

The Polish are one of the few peoples worth fighting to protect. I’m glad the US is protecting them from the scum of that region.

God bless Poland.
