SKYLINE - Three people were killed tonight when a military helicopter apparently hit power lines and crashed near this northern Jackson County community. The crash happened around 6:15 p.m., according to witnesses.

According to Jackson County Coroner John David Jordan, "debris is scattered all over."

Officials from Redstone Arsenal and a Tennessee Valley Authority crew were heading to the crash site near County Road 138. Redstone Arsenal manages the Army's fleet of helicopters.

It was not immediately known what type of helicopter was involved nor what caused the crash.

Oddly, at least to me, if a military helicopter accidentally struck a power line in Iraq, while engaged in a non-combat flight, the resulting casualities would be considered part of the War in Iraq death/injury toll.
